"He went to work today," I told Aria.
"he seemed to actually try," she said.
Aria and I decided to hang out at the mall today during my lunch break. It was nice for us to spend time with each other finally. It seemed like these couple of days, we only got to see each other briefly.
"Ya, that's what I told him last night. This is the most we spend time together since we got married," I shrugged my shoulder. "I mean, we are sharing a bed,"
Aria's eyes went wide. "What?"
"I mean, we are sleeping next to each other, not anything more," I clarified.
"You didn't offer him the couch?' She questioned.
"I did. Multiple times but your brother is apparently a princess and would not sleep anywhere else," I shook my head. "He's a stubborn as f**k," I mumbled.
"That I agree. But is anything happening between you two?" she asked, looking genuinely curious.
"Why would anything happen? I mean, for 3 years, nothing did. Besides, I like someone else you know that,"
"Mmm. How is it going with Chris anyway?" She asked.
"I don't know. I mean, I think he likes me, but I'm
technically still another women's wife," I said.
"You know you're the most loyal wife to a man that pretended you didn't exist for half of it," she said.
I just laughed awkwardly and did not say anything more.
But the thought did make me think. Even after I left Reid, I didn't pursue anything with anyone.
I don't know whether it was because of him or because of me.
Reid and I never gotten a divorce because I left before we even could. He didn't reach out to me either to get that divorce.
There was no point in being loyal to a man that wants nothing to do with me anyways. Reid is there for Elias.
There was no harm in dating Chris either. I shouldn't have waited this long to ask him for that divorce.
And now that there was a chance, maybe I should take it.
-
After work, I had rushed home to find Reid.
But he was nowhere in sight. I had assumed he was at his office.
I'll have to wait till he did come back.
"Mommy, can we see ducky?" Eli asked.
"I'm not sure if ducky is home, little prince, but we can go see,"
He smiled widen, and we went out across the hall and knocked on Chris's door and waited.
He opened his door almost right away, and Eli fell in his arms.
He laughed and hugged him.
"Hey, little prince!"
"Hey! I didn't know you would be home, but he wanted to see you," I told him, making my way inside the apartment.
"I'm glad to see you all. I was about to knock on your door anyways," he said.
I smiled at him.
Eli ran through his apartment and began playing with the toy cars that he brought from home.
"So, how is your husband?" He asked.
"Don't call him that. He's not my husband,"
"Well, since you guys aren't divorced, he is," he mentioned.
I rolled my eyes. "Anyways, how is work for you?" I changed the topic.
"It's been fine. We've been busy, though," he slugged his shoulder.
"I can imagine,"
Chris owns a small coffee shop down the street. It was actually something we both bonded with the first time we met.
Since we both owned a small business.
His shop was very welcoming, and they had many loyal customers.
But it also meant Chris didn't have much time, and he was always going in and out.
It was even a miracle he had time nowadays.
Because of Eli, I have to separate work and being a mom. But Chris spends all of his time at his shop.
"Do you wanna stay for dinner?" He asked, looking over at Eli.
"It's okay, I think-" I couldn't finish my sentence when my phone rang.
I looked to see it was Reid. How did he even have my number?
"Hello?"
"Where are you?" He asked so bluntly.
"Were at Chris's apartment," I informed him.
I could hear him curse under his breath. "Where is that?"
"Across the hall."
He didn't say anything more, just hung up the phone.
"Reid?" Chris asked. I nodded my head. "Anyways, I need to take Eli home. He has school tomorrow," I sighed. "Eli, come on," I called out.
Eli came over to me in a hurry. "Mommy, can I stay with ducky? Pleaseeeee," he begged.
"No little prince ducky has work in the morning, and you have school," I told him, and he began whining.
"Duckyyyy," he cried out, holding on to his legs.
I tried to pull him off, but he held him firmly.
Chris laughed, picking him up. "I don't mind him staying over. I'll take him to school," he said, brushing Elias's hair.
"Are you sure? I don't want him to be too much,"
"He's never too much for me. Let him stay,"
They both stared, pleading with their eyes.
"Fine. But only this once," I said, looking over at Eli, and they both began cheering.
"But I've to get home now. Be good little prince," I kissed his cheeks. "Bye, guys," I said, walking out the door into my own apartment.
Reid was sitting on the couch with his laptop in front of him. He looked up when I entered the living room.
"Where is Eli?" It was the first thing he asked.
"With Chris. He's staying there tonight," I said, taking off my sweater I was wearing and went into my room.
Reid got off the couch and followed behind.
"Why is he staying with that guy?" He asked, annoyed.
"Cuz that guy is some Eli happens to love spending time with, and besides, this not the first time he has slept over there," I told him.
He watched me for few moments before asking me. "Have you ever slept at him the place,"
I stared at him. "Why does it matter to you? I questioned.
"Cuz I wanna know," he shrugged his shoulder, coming up to stand right in front of me.
"Well, it's none of your concern. Now get out while h change," I pointed at the door.
"I'm not leaving till you answer the question,"
I put a hand on my hips and glared at him. "Don't think I'm too embarrassed to change in front of you," I told him before I took off my shirt and stood in front of him with just my bra.
His eyes widen at my sudden action. And I couldn't help the smirk that crept onto my lips.
I walked away from him. At least I did try to, but he took hold of my arm, pulling me hard that my bare chest collided with his own.
"Don't start a game you won't win now. Did you ever sleep with him?"
My pulse quickened, and I could feel the excitement in my stomach, and I needed to pull myself out.
His one hand made its way down to my waist, and I shivered, his cold skin touching my own.
"Get off of me," I told him, my voice shaking.
"Answer my question," he demanded.
I'm not letting this happen. I looked at him dead in the eyes. Our face inches away from eachother and whispered, "no," and stepped right on his foot.
He let me go immediately and hissed at the pain.
"You fuckin-"
"Don't touch me again," I said before walking away from him and into the bathroom.
I held my heart, listening to how fast it was beating and finally let out a breath.
What just happened?
