The rain hammered violently against the parking lot. Car alarms screamed from every direction. Jayda crouched behind the black SUV while her hands covered her ears instinctively. Her whole body trembled so hard she could barely breathe. Another gunshot exploded nearby.

Damek immediately pulled her closer behind the vehicle. “Stay down.”
