Chapter 6

1284 Words
A nerve-wracking period of silence followed after Jayda gave up complaining about the guy she was with inside the store a while ago. The music went off almost ten minutes ago and no one came after the guy left. “I wonder how this place didn’t get much costumer by this time,” Jayda whispered as she put her chin on both hands. It was past 9 in the evening and Jayda didn’t feel like to head home until she remembered Faris. Just as she fished her phone inside her jacket, she sighed and said, “Damn. It feels like he’s away about years.” Her usual destination everytime she uses her phone was on her w******p. But her heart just became heavier after she learned that there was no message from the person she missed the most. I miss you. Contact me when you have time. It was her last message to Faris that never received any reply yet. She had let out a long breath before she turned off her phone. What could she do? It’s business. Only to console her lonely heart, she thought of it as a preparation for their future. A weary smile flashed on Jayda’s face. Looking back to her table, the tissue caught her attention once more. It was on its other side that Jayda didn’t notice at once. After eating, go home. It’s late. “How I wish that it was Faris telling me to go home and not that annoying guy,” she complained once more before she decided to go back to the hotel. As Jayda was walking, Damek suddenly popped inside her head as she noticed she was holding the chocolate drink he gave to her. “I didn’t know that guys like him still exist. Feeling close, tss,” she uttered. “Whatever! I could just throw this away, but I would definitely waste food. I know how bad it is to just throw food.” She knew it sounded like an excuse, but at the back of her mind, she was still wondering why a random stranger appreciated her existence out of the blue. “Damek...” she whispered. “Not a bad name.” The last thing Jayda knew, she was already at the hotel’s pool staring at a guy in a corner who seemed to be looking for something. Not just that, he was rummaging at the mini garden that was actually odd and suspicious. Pounding heart and trembling knees were all Jayda felt as she remembered the murder incident. A step backwards, she started to panic as she looked to her left and right, checking if there were people or securities around, but she saw no one aside from the familiar guy. It was dim, so she barely saw him. But Jayda was sure that it was the guy she was chasing the last time in the elevator going to the 7th floor. “I should report this to the securities—ah!” Before she could be able to run and shout for help, she was tripped and fell to the ground. That moment, the guards finally showed up and helped Jayda. “Miss! Are you okay?” “The killer...” Jayda mumbled as she tried to stand, but the guy she saw was no longer in sight. “What happened? What are you saying?” But Jayda just shut her mouth as she remembered no one would believe her. “We are sorry to say, but the CCTVs at the 6th and 7th floor is still under maintenance. In fact,” the security simply looked behind Jayda to assure himself that there was no dead body inside her room, “there’s no trace of blood. There were no clue nor a sign that a crime was committed here. Maybe... maybe you’re just really drunk. We could smell the alcohol from you.” The deputies started to leave one by one, shaking their head. “Have a good night, Miss Jayda. We’re leaving now. Don’t worry, there is really nothing like a woman’s dead body inside your room.” The thought of it gave her a sudden headache. “Do we need to call an ambulance?” How I wish hospital could cure what I am feeling right now because of the incident that only me witnessed. It’s killing me, her inner self cried. Jayda managed to sit with her knees up near her chest as she pressed her temples, wagging her head. “I’m fine. You can... you can now leave, Sir. I’m sorry. I just tripped myself and fell...” she said stuttering, leaving the guards in wonder about what happened to her. When Jayda finally came back to her room, she almost threw herself to her bed, eyes closed. “I think I’m going to die...” she uttered as she felt helpless and drained. Her eagerness to know the truth was fading. How could she unfold something all by herself? In fact, no one would believe her. While drowned in her thoughts, Jayda suddenly felt her phone vibrated inside the pocket of her jacket she was wearing. “Faris?” she uttered the moment she pressed the answer button. For a moment, Jayda felt relieved as Faris finally gave her a call. She sat on her bed as she tucked her hair behind her ears, smiling. “Babe...” said Faris on the other line. “Babe?” For some reason, Jayda’s forehead creased. “How are you? Are you okay? How are you doing?” “Wait, Babe. You sound nervous...” “Look. I miss you, too. Of course, I’m worried since I’m still away.” That questions made Jayda think as if Faris already knew something happened to her. But how? He was miles away. Although it was not as if she was hurt so bad to ask if she was doing good, she just couldn’t stop her thoughts. Or was she overthinking things again? “Um... I’m fine, Babe,” Jayda answered. “You? You seem exhausted. Your voice... did you run, by any chance? I could feel that you’re out of breath—” “Oh, my voice. Ah, I’m sorry, Babe. I was... I was in the gym. Right. I was in the gym earlier. You know...” Why do things doesn’t feel right these days? Jayda thought to herself. However, Damek, on the other hand was on his phone with his bestfriend. “Come on! Suggest something, Gon!” Damek almost shouted. He was pacing back and forth inside his room as he was pulling his hair. “Okay, calm down. Breath first!” his friend, Gon, chuckled on the other line as he heard Damek panicked. “You sounded like you ran over a hundred laps—” “I left my phone in my room. I needed to call you right away, but the elevator was full.” “You mean, you took the stairs?” “It doesn’t matter, Gon! Help me!” “Fine. Calm down first—” “How can I calm down?” “You still have time, Bro.” “I don’t have! What if someone see it? What if someone... I’m dead!” “Did someone see you?” “No. I don’t think so.”
