Chapter Eleven VICTOR A fantasy played in my head as we strolled down Cary Street. In it, Chad was my boyfriend, and I imagined he was holding my hand the way he did the night before on the couch. That he called me ‘babe’ all the time, not just a one-time slip of the tongue when he tried to make me feel better. Of course, I’d have to deal with the downside of having him as a boyfriend too. Every other man and woman who passed us eye-f****d Chad, and most were less than subtle. Chad didn’t seem to notice it, and I got a sinking feeling that I would have to do something extreme to get him to want me. I didn’t have a clue what Chad found attractive, and could only speculate that whatever it was, I didn’t have it. “Here’s the store.” I said. Chad stood in front of the window and frowned.
