CHAPTER SIXTEEN Emily and Ryan had been together for three years, and their relationship had been nothing short of amazing. They had met in college, bonding over their love of adventure and good coffee. As they navigated their early twenties, they had faced their fair share of challenges. But one thing that had always been a source of comfort for them was their strong communication and trust. One day, Ryan mentioned to Emily that he was going to meet up with his ex, Lexi, for coffee. Emily's heart skipped a beat as she felt a pang of jealousy. "Wait, what? You're meeting up with your ex?" Emily asked, trying to sound casual. Ryan nodded. "Yeah, we've remained friends over the years. We don't see each other often, but we keep in touch." Emily raised an eyebrow. "You never told me you were still friends with your ex." Ryan shrugged. "I didn't think it was a big deal. We didn't break up on bad terms or anything. We just grew apart." Emily felt a wave of insecurity wash over her. What if Ryan still had feelings for Lexi? What if they reconnected and realized they were meant to be? But as she looked into Ryan's eyes, she saw nothing but love and reassurance. "Hey, I promise you, Emily, there's nothing to worry about," Ryan said, taking her hand. "I love you, and I'm committed to our relationship. Lexi is just a friend, and I'm meeting up with her as a friend." Emily smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. "Okay, I trust you," she said. The day of the meeting arrived, and Ryan gave Emily a kiss on the cheek before heading out. "I'll be back soon, and we can grab dinner together," he said. Emily smiled and waved goodbye, feeling a sense of confidence in their relationship. As Ryan met up with Lexi, Emily couldn't help but wonder what their conversation would be like. Would they talk about old times? Would they discuss their current relationships? But as Ryan returned home and filled Emily in on the details of their meeting, Emily realized that she had nothing to worry about. "We just caught up on each other's lives," Ryan said. " Lexi is doing well, and she's actually getting married soon." Emily's eyes widened in surprise. "That's great! I'm happy for her." Ryan smiled. "Yeah, me too. And I'm happy to be with you, Emily. You're the love of my life, and I'm grateful for every moment we spend together." Emily's heart swelled with love and appreciation for Ryan. She knew that their relationship was strong, and that they could overcome any challenge that came their way.
