Chapter 6 As night fell over the city, X slipped unseen into the hotel via the back door. The smell of cigarettes, noticeable before, was even stronger now. His footsteps thudded against the carpet, and even though he didn’t need to feel his way, he ran his fingers along the raised wallpaper as he walked through the darkness. He crept quietly down the hallways, the memory of justice against the hood fresh on his mind. It was a strange kind of justice, one he had never pursued before, but it felt right. Even though X was outside the UEA, outside the jurisdiction of its laws, and even though he had hurt a human, it felt very right. The man had hurt countless people.
