AFTER A DETOUR TO THE kitchen, Nathan returned to the foyer with a steaming mug of hot chocolate and Constable Havers a step behind him. As they had been instructed, he found Arthur Moore and Simon Bonner still there. They remained on either side of the reception area, eyeing one another with a mixture of wariness and animosity. It was understandable, Nathan thought, Moore blamed Bonner for what had happened to his wife, and Bonner was concerned that he was going to be attacked again. Between the two men stood Louisa, positioned as if to keep them apart should they decide to resume hostilities.
