NATHAN FOUND HIMSELF conflicted when he finally left the office. On the one hand, he was glad to have the interview over with — he suspected he would be interviewed again, by someone more competent, if it was determined that the death of Tracey Pierson was murder, but that was a worry for another time — so he could return to his holiday, while on the other he was unhappy to be on the scene of an unexplained death without being involved in the investigation. He was too used to overseeing whatever investigations were happening around him, or at least being kept in the loop, to be happy about leaving one to someone else, especially when he doubted that he would know the investigating officers and couldn’t be sure of their competency.
