CHAPTER 60 Reginald and I didn’t talk about his failing health. Didn’t mention that he’d lost nearly as much weight as I’d gained during the pregnancy. I wouldn’t have admitted it even to myself at the time, but looking back I think I knew that whatever decisions I made for Gracie and me, I wouldn’t be able to rely on Reginald’s generosity for much longer. I’d been seeing a counselor ever since the bathtub incident. Pretty intensive stuff. Two afternoons a week, and Reginald had to drive Gracie and me all the way to Wenatchee.
