64 Evie didn’t have to pee so badly anymore. She hadn’t peed her pants. It was more like her thirsty body had reabsorbed the fluid. (She’d have to ask her mom if that was possible.) She was hungry, too, and her head ached like it had the last time she got the flu. She kept trying to come up with scenarios to get away. Having confirmed the child locks, it seemed the only thing she could do was wait for them to stop long enough for the man to leave the vehicle. And then wait for him to walk far enough away that she could sneak out the front. It was a lot of waiting, and a lot of crossing her fingers.
