60 It was full dark now. Lying on the floor, if Evie peeked from behind her hood, she could see a hint of glow cresting the front seat from the dash and the headlights. Evie was afraid to find out where they were going, afraid of what had happened to Miss Iris, afraid that the man driving the truck might find her and of what he would do to her. She was afraid her mom—and Rachel—would be freaking out right now. But the thing that occupied her mind most was that she had to pee. There were some funky smells on the floor, but she was pretty sure if she peed her pants, the man would smell it. At least she was lying on her side instead of her belly. She didn’t know how long the man had been driving, but he was doing it at what felt like a reasonable speed. She hadn’t been thrown around at all
