36 Adam fought to keep his eyes on the road, to not look every time Virgil moved in the passenger seat. But his head kept twitching in Virgil’s direction. Adam wanted to understand what had happened with Danny, what Virgil had done to try to keep Adam away from him. But every time he started to think about it, Adam’s hands shook so much it became difficult to hold the steering wheel. Driving Luther’s vehicle, a veritable tank compared to Adam’s hatchback, was challenging enough on an hour or two of fitful sleep.
