The first week rolled by surprisingly fast and not as bad as Celine expected.
It wasn't exactly good, but it wasn't terrible, she would admit. Scott wasn't that bad.
He was distant, sure.
Controlling, yes.
Is she getting used to this? Definitely not.
Scott is cold but calm; he rarely shows emotions, but his words do. His words pass what his calm exterior doesn't, order…that's what it flaunts.
Celine might not be getting used to this but at least Hudson was getting comfortable in the new environment and mostly the huge garden at the back of the mansion that was filled with beautiful flowers and also a trampoline, a trampoline that Hudson loves to jump on, his favorite side of the garden to say and why Scott had a trampoline at his backyard, she wasn't sure of. Hudson's also getting really close to Clara, and sometimes she lets him sit on the stool in the kitchen while she cooks, which Celine was happy about.
The first week has gone by with the feeling that Celine was learning how to live under the same roof with a predator; she never knew what to expect.
Scott never shouted.
Never threw things or became aggressive because he had lost control.
At least that would have been easier if he did, not that Celine wanted him to be aggressive, but at least then she would know what to avoid and what to do; but now it was like walking on eggeggshellcott has his way of keeping things under his control.
He had a talent for making people feel small without ever raising his voice.
And that was what made him different and dangerous.
Celine noticed it every evening.
He was always coming home late, missing dinner sometimes.
Always perfectly composed despite him being evidently tired.
Always carrying that rich and sharp smell from an expensive cologne, that always announced his presence, that would make anyone look at him twice, including Celine.
And tonight was no different.
Celine sat on the living room sofa, curled on one side after she had put Hudson to sleep. A book rested open in her palm, her eyes following every word.
The front door opened, and Scott walked in in his usual composed form.
It took Celine a while before noticing him, and her shoulders instantly stiffened before she could control herself.
Scott walked into the living room, loosening his tie, his attention on his phone.
He looked unfairly good.
More human.
He looked really sexy.
Celine shook her head as if to shake that weird thought out of her head, and Scott chose to look up. They held each other's gaze for a while, then Scott proceeded towards the bar across the room. He poured himself a drink; the ice clicked softly against the glass.
“Why are you drinking this late?” The question came out before she could stop herself.
Scott's brows furrowed; his face expressed, ‘Who are you to question?’
Celine's mouth opened, then closed. She closed her book briefly, scrambling to her feet. I'm sorry, I was just… I didn't mean to, sorry”.
“Is Hudson asleep?” The question came out of nowhere; Celine stopped on her track to the bedroom.
Wow, so he knows Hudson's name.
But instead of giving a snarky remark, she swallowed it down.
“Yes, I put him to sleep a while back”
“And you? Why are you not sleeping yet?” He asked.
“I've been doing nothing literally since morning, so I was bored and decided to catch up on the novel I was reading”, then you decided to show up and apparently ruin my peace. She wanted to add.
Scott hummed softly, his back casually resting against the counter. His gaze slid over her, taking in her frame.
And paused.
Not on her face but lower.
Heat crept up Celine's face as she realized what Scott was looking at.
She was wearing a thin red colored lounge set.
Loose enough to be comfortable but not modest enough to hide the shape of her body.
And the neckline was low enough to showcase her cleavage.
More heat crawled up her neck.
Annoyingly, Scott noticed.
His expression remained solemn, but something dark flickered through them briefly before disappearing.
“You should sleep earlier”, he said calmly, but his voice was rougher than usual.
“Wow, so you do care”, she said with a hint of sarcasm and anger, even if she didn't know where the latter came from.
Scott took a slow sip from his drink, dropped the glass on the counter, and stepped closer to where she was standing.
Every step was precise, deliberate, and it tightened something low in her stomach, and she hated it.
She hated the fact that she found him hot.
Hated the fact that he looked really handsome walking up to her.
His broad shoulders.
Unwavering confidence.
The way he carried himself, fully aware of the power he possessed and living in its full glory.
Every step he took made her stomach coil.
In what? Anticipation?
He stopped near her.
Way too close.
Too close that she was scared he might hear the sound of her heart hammering against her chest.
“You fear me.” It wasn't a question; it was a statement, a very valid fact.
Celine swallowed audibly. “And why would you think I fear you?” She wasn't fooling anyone, not with the way she blinked rapidly.
He definitely makes her nervous, if not fearful.
“You shiver whenever I come close to you”, another fact stated.
“I do not”, she crossed her hands across her chest, trying to look firm and not bothered by him.
“You sure about that”
“Very”.
A devious smirk formed on his lips.
“So, you're saying…”, one step closer.
“You'll not be affected…”, another step.
“If I do this”, Celine's eyes fluttered closed as a weird sensation stormed deep in her stomach.
Her eyes opened to meet Scott's gaze on her as his fingers trailed, slow and sensually, from her face to her neck, feathery touches trailed her collarbone, then to her exposed cleavage.
Celine sucked her lower lip between her teeth as she was about to let out the most embarrassing sound of her life.
To Scott, touching her, barely.
Her b
ody grew weak under his heated gaze and feathery touches. Instead of pushing him away, she just stood there, letting him touch her.
“Mummy”.
