Chapter 13Katharina was in high spirits. I told her we were going home, but first we needed to have a farewell dinner with Jahnke and Margarethe at the Via Berlin. I debated telling Katharina about the explosion that would send the Comanche to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. I knew she would not stop asking questions until she extracted the entire plan Funston and I had cooked up. So I decided to keep her in the dark. That way, her shock at learning of the Comanche’s demise at sea would be spontaneous and convincing. We met Jahnke and Margarethe at the Via Berlin at eight o’clock.
