With great effort, I crawled from beneath him, and he pounced on me again, piercing his teeth on my neck as his incisors cut through my skin. “Dad, please,” I begged, but he stuck his teeth even deeper as blood seeped through. I had to defend myself; I never thought doing so would be against my own father. He wouldn’t let me speak; instead, he clawed me with his paw, shredding my dress. With great struggle, I freed myself from the clutches of his front paw, running for my life until we were at a safer distance. I watched everyone present, and they all threw looks of disgust at me.
Staring at mom, she held Morgan’s body in her arms, crying her eyes out, "Mom, what is going on here?” I asked as dad snarled at me, ready to devour me if I moved an inch. “Don’t you dare call me your mother,! she yells at me. “What's the meaning of that? I did nothing. It’s a lie; I did it. Kill her, dad, please” . He took a step forward, readying his stance for an attack. His eyes showed no mercy or trace of belief.
Tears polled in my eyes, blurring my vision, as I stared at everyone present. No one believed me; they were all at their edges, staring at me with hateful looks.
“I did not _____.”
Dad growled, taking to his feet. I felt the depth of rage from within as I let my wolf out, going head-to-head with him. His moves were studied like the back of my palm; I knew his every move. Before he got my neck, I attacked his waist, then his feet ripped him off his balance, and he howled in pain as he retaliated as expected. My teeth pierce deeper in his neck. Running out of options, he scowls in pain. He lays at the mercy of my teeth, bleeding from his neck.
Taken aback by a sudden push by another wolf, definitely not my friend, I dug my paw deeper in the ground and surveyed the line of wolves hovering over the surrounding area; their presence enunciated menace. In a blink of an eye, they were all at me once, battling for who would rip the first flesh, but just like my father, they were weak and without skill either; all they had were strong bites, but that won't happen as I happen to be fast. One after the other, I pierced and gnawed at every one of them till they were all back in their human form, bleeding and scorning for help.
Walking towards Morgan, Mom, who had been with her a while ago, whimpered away from her as she noticed my closeness. As with everyone who came to witness my humiliation, looking back at Morgan, she was brutally murdered, her face badly disfigured with scratches; she was barely recognizable with those scars.Whoever killed her showed no mercy; her clothes were ripped mercilessly, and with how frail her body was, she must have struggled before her death, but she was obviously nothing compared to her murderers. As I leaned closer to get a scent of her, I could detect not only her scent but that of an unknown wolf.
Definitely not one from my pack.
Whoever did this to her doesn’t deserve to roam the city freely; they need to be hunted down and killed mercilessly, Morgan doesn’t deserve this. “Morticia, Alpha Jarvald had sent us to call you," a man behind me said, turning gently at the bleeding man before me. He had pain written all over his face as his eyes dreaded with fear and anticipation. He held his hands with the other, trying to control the bleeding. His healing process is rather slow; his eyes are wet from restrained tear drops. I could tell his endurance is high.Turning back to my human form, I could sense the presence of relief as I was less of a threat on two feet than on four.
“ why does your pack leader want me?”
“ for questioning”
“ I have no answer to give.”
Whatever he wants to ask me, I have no answer to it, and I won’t be answering to him even if I did. He had boldly humiliated me; he called me shameless for saying what I really felt. Now he wants to speak?
“But Morticia?”
The bruised man persisted from a safe distance: “Tell him I don’t answer to him anymore”, The crowd gasped at my remark. No one ever turns the alpha down, not even his beta, but I am not just anyone and would definitely bear the consequences.
“Morticia, it’s for your sisters.”
“ What about my sister?”
“ Her killer,” he said,
As unpleasant as it feels, I really wanted to know who was behind the death of my sister, even if it meant seeing him again.Behind me stood a lot of bruised people. I didn't notice the blood bath I made right before now, but right now everyone could be of help to them except me; no one believes my innocence, not even my family.
The ride to Alpha Jarvald Castle was as suffocating as having one's head held up by a bag; the thought of being convicted for the murder of my own sister made me nauseous. On reaching his self-made castle, its facade was valiant; from the tall brick wall down to the spiky succulent flowers, it was incomparable.Javald was known for his stoicism and fearlessness; unlike other pack alphas, he was superior and never feared to show it. His actions mirror mine in every way, which gave me the impression that he was the only alpha fit for a warrior like me.
I was so certain that we were meant to be mates until yesterday but realizing fate chose my sister instead changed the course of everything I have ever believed in. “The alpha would like to see you now”, a man who had just walked in a few seconds after my arrival said, noticing the presence of his injured cohort behind me. He moved a step backward, and I could sense his fear from where he stood.
“I won’t hurt you yet,” I said, passing a smirk at the trembling man.
“ This way”
I followed their lead through a long pathway. The endless trail of steps made my mind hover around possibilities—what if Jarvald suspected I was my sister's killer because of yesterday?
No, he’s way better than that, he was smart and practical, he would never think of something so pathetic, I would rather confront Morgan than get swayed by emotion, which will lead to killing her. Even if everyone claimed I took her life, I knew the alpha enough to predict his jurisdiction
The endless pathway finally leads to a room; unlike other doors I had noticed on my way here, this felt different; a skull with a loose jaw was used as a door knocker; it expels danger just by staring at it.
“Alpha Jarvald awaits you,” one of his subordinates said.
Besides, he’s a weird man; he might as well have a room the same as the facade of his house. Knocking on the door, it opens almost immediately. I walked in; everywhere was dark and smelled of metal. And blood, a scent that could never be misunderstood. Walking further, I got a hint of something dreaded by all wolves; my wolf smelled danger, and so did I. I turned to the exit, but immediately the door got locked, leaving me in the dark room.
Just as I hear the clicking sound of clashing metal after being successfully confined, the light gets turned on, exposing the wolves who escorted me to this very room.
I've Got you now.”
