Chapter 1: Anastasia

2115 Words
I walked the busy streets of Alador City as I listened to my music. My red curls bounced while I walked. The crowds of people walked past me as I hurried off to the club where I worked. I hurried to work when I realized the time. When I reached the club’s door, I rushed inside to get changed. “Ana, about time you got your ass here.” My boss shouted at me. I rolled my eyes, “I’m barely five minutes late. Chill, Jackson.” I told him as I went to the changing rooms. I watched as the girls ran around getting ready; I went over to my booth and started getting ready myself. I wasn’t like these other girls. I only worked the bar; these girls were more adventurous than me. I changed into my fishnet thigh highs, a leather mini skirt and corset top, and long leather boots. I honestly looked like a f*****g dominatrix already, and I haven’t even done my hair and makeup yet. I chuckled to myself as I looked at myself in the mirror. I began brushing out my red curls before putting in deep purple streaks and then doing my makeup.  Once I was ready, I followed some girls out to the main floor and made my way behind the bar as men began flooding in the club, music booming through the speakers. Men started ordering drinks while watching the girls dance. I continued to make drinks when my best friend came over to the bar, “Hey b***h, how’s it going?” She laughed, her long blonde hair in pigtails, one side with green tips and the other with purple; I turned to her and smiled, “Lucy, taking on the Harley Quinn look, I see.” She giggled, backing up so I could get a good look at her outfit. Her tattoos were visible under the fishnet tights; she wore half green, half purple booty shorts and the crop top that was so tight on her that it made her breast nearly pop out. I smirked, “Looks good on you.” I told her, “Thanks, girl, I tried. Jackson thought it was a good look since I already reminded him of a mini Harley.” She giggled; I couldn’t disagree with him on that one. Lucy was almost as crazy as the real one from the comics. We laughed when a group of men waved us down,  “Hey, can we get some drinks down here?” One of the men shouted. I sighed, “Gotta get back, have fun, girly.” As I went over to the group, I told Lucy, “What can I get you guys?” I asked them, the one that called me over handed me a card,  “Whiskey, top-shelf.” He stated coldly; I nodded and took the card and turned to make the drinks, “And keep them coming, darling!” The man yelled from across the bar. I sent him a thumbs up to let him know I heard him. Hard not to, considering how loud their group was. I brought them the drinks but dropped my rag, so I had to bend over to pick it up. That’s when, “Nice tat babe, had to hurt your ass when they did it. But why two dragons?” He asked; I smirked as I raised up,  “It’s not a tat, but thanks,” I told him; he raised a brow curiously, “Oh? Trying to say that it’s a birthmark?” He said to me; I nodded,  “Yeah, guess my parents thought I was cursed or something, so they dropped me off at the nearest orphanage, then went on with their lives.” I explained, then saw a customer trying to wave me down, “Gotta go.” I told him, but he said something else just before I walked away, “I want to hear more of your story, baby, when you have a chance.” He winked at me; I placed a hand on my hip and turned to face him slightly,  “We’ll see, baby.” I cooed and started back to work.  Work and these damn heels were starting to kill my feet. I watched as Lucy did her dance to Super Freak from our favorite movie, which I think inspired her look. I smirked as she danced for the men in front of her. Money was flying all over her as she twerked and shoved a man’s face into her breasts, which I know he enjoyed. Lucy has been begging me to let her teach me how to dance so we could do some together, but I refused. I’m content with just working the bar; every night, I got fifty to one hundred dollars just in tips from one person. They say I’m the best bartender in the whole city. I just knew my way around the liquor. The same man that waved me down earlier began waving at me again, so I went towards him, “Whatcha need?” I asked, using my arms to squeeze my girls together to make them a bit perkier; he seemed to like it. “I’m about to head out, doll. My friend is getting married tomorrow, and he’s shitfaced. His bride is going to kill me if I don’t have him at the wedding in the morning in one piece.” I laughed a little, “So, I need my card.” I nodded and handed it to him, “Have a goodnight, and tell your friend congrats when he’s sobered up.” He smirked at me,  “Can I get your number, dragon girl?” I rolled my eyes at the nickname and grabbed a napkin and wrote down my number,  “I’m here almost every night, so come see me again,” I told him flirtatiously. He took the napkin from me, then looked at it, then looked up at me,  “Can I get your name?” He asked. I smirked before turning away just to glance over slightly, narrowing my eyes,  “Maybe another time, dear. I gotta go.” I told him and started working at the other end of the bar. I glanced over and saw him talking to Lucy, and then he and his friends left. Lucy smirked at me as she led a guy to the back room; I scoffed and rolled my eyes.  I was cleaning up since the bar was pretty dead when I got a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach. I glanced behind me to see two men from across the room staring at…me. I felt uneasy but continued what I was doing, “Hey, Ana!” Lucy jumped onto the bar without warning; I mentally groaned.  “Luc, I just wiped that down.” I told her, and she hopped down right behind me, “How’s your night going?” I asked her. She smirked “Pretty good. Everyone loves my new look!” She said excitedly; I laughed a little,  “I’m glad; I will admit, you do look hot in that.” Lucy gave me a flirtatious wink before leaning on the bar. But then I got the uneasy feeling again and turned to see the men walking over to the bar. I felt chills run down my spine, but then, “Hey, Ana, time for your break,” Darcy told me as she came around the bar. I nodded and hurried to the dressing room, Lucy on my heels.  Once we were in there, Lucy gave me a curious look, “You okay? You look like you’re going to be sick or something.” I released a shaky breath and nodded, “Yeah,” I say, “I think I’m a little lightheaded,” I told her. She nodded and went to my locker; she came around with my monitor. Lucy wiped my finger and pricked it, then moved the monitor over until my blood entered the strip. She waited a moment or two, and then the numbers came up. Lucy gave me a disappointed look,  “Eighty-three. I’m shocked you’re even still standing.” She told me, crossing her arms over her chest. She pulled out her phone and texted someone before she turned her attention back to me, “Andy is on his way with some food. I’m going to check my purse for something, hang on.” She tells me while she walks over to her locker, “I should have restocked my emergency bag.” I groaned, cursing myself under my breath. Lucy came back over and handed me a PayDay bar,  “Yeah, Ruby said she saw it before she left but didn’t think to grab it for you. She thought you left it on purpose.” Go figure, my roommates are stuck trying to take care of me. “You chill in here; I’ll tell Darcy what’s going on.” I nodded, and she left the room. I sat there, trying to eat before I could get any worse. Maybe that feeling was just my sugar being really low, I thought. I shrugged and took a bite of the candy bar. Andy brought me my food and sat with me so Lucy could go back to work. They made me wait a while afterward to gather my strength; part of me was grateful, but I didn’t have time to sit here. I needed to be able to pay half of the rent. Ruby came in and smiled at me, “How are you feeling, Ana?” She asked; I gave her a weak smile, “I’m okay,” I tell her, trying my best to stand, but Andy gave me a warning look,  “Ana, don’t push yourself.” He warned, “Lucy would kill me if I didn’t watch you.” I rolled my eyes and continued to stand; after I was on my feet, Ruby looked at me,  “What happened?” She asked, “This is the lowest it’s ever gotten; you normally catch it before it drops below ninety.” I shook my head,  “I don’t know. I guess I was busier than I thought and didn’t realize.” I told her; Ruby gave me a look that said that she doubted my story, “It doesn’t matter, I’m fine.” I insisted; Jackson came in and looked at me,  “Head home, Ana, you look like shit.” I wanted to protest, but Ruby stopped me, “Go home, take a shower, get some rest.” She told me, “You really do look like shit.” I gave her a playful look, then nodded, turning to Andy,  “Give me a ride?” I asked,  “Duh, Lucy won’t give me any for a month if I made you walk home by yourself.” He told me, and ironically, he’s not wrong. Lucy, Ruby, and I grew up in this awful orphanage until we were eighteen. Lucy and Ruby started dancing, and Jackson let me clean and help the girls until I turned twenty-one; that’s when he put me behind the bar. I got my stuff together and changed into my comfy shoes before following Andy out the club door and to his car.  Reaching the apartment, Andy walked me up to the door and made sure I got in safely, “Do you need anything before I go?” He asked; I shook my head,  “I’m just going to do what Ruby said and shower and get some rest,” I told him. He nodded,  “Feel better.” He told me before he headed back downstairs. I shut the door and went to my bedroom, kicking off my shoes the second I walked in. I veered towards my bathroom and started the water; while the water heated up, I went back to my room and grabbed my PJs before heading back. I stripped then stepped under the water. The steam surrounded my aching body, the water trickled down my breasts before falling to the shower floor. I began to wash my hair, watching the purple dye my shampoo before watching it run while I rinsed it out. I sighed, already starting to feel better. I finished showering, then turned off the water, wrapping my towel around me tightly and putting my hair up in another towel before getting dressed.  I went into my room and turned on the tv as I got into bed, then turned off the lights and listened to the tv in the background as I drifted off to sleep.
