The villainess

I only knew one thing. Seraphina dies. The thought slammed into me so hard my knees nearly gave out beneath me. “No…” My voice cracked as I stumbled backward away from the mirror, shaking my head desperately. “This isn’t real.” But the reflection moved exactly when I did. Her. Me. Seraphina. Panic clawed violently up my throat. I died. I knew I died. I remembered the gunshot. The alley. The blood running beneath me. So why was I here? Why this story? Why this body? “Lady Seraphina?” the maid asked carefully. I barely heard her. A sob tore out of me before I could stop it. “No, no, no…” My hands trembled violently as tears blurred my vision. I had begged for my life. Begged for one more chance to breathe. And somehow— This was what God gave me? A doomed ending wearing a beautiful face? “This can’t be happening,” I whispered brokenly. The maid took a hesitant step closer. “My lady—” “Don’t.” The word came out sharper than I intended. Fear flashed across her face instantly. And that terrified me even more. Because that fear— That reaction— Belonged to Seraphina. Not me. I looked back at the mirror again, breathing unevenly. Beautiful red hair. Pale skin. Eyes filled with panic that didn’t belong in the face of a villainess. I remembered the final chapter too clearly. Seraphina kneeling beneath the Black Moon. Blood soaking through her dress. Begging Alpha Malakai not to kill her while the entire kingdom watched. And he still drove the sword through her chest. My stomach twisted violently. “I don’t want to die again,” I whispered. The room suddenly felt too small. Too bright. I gripped the edge of the vanity hard enough for it to hurt. God. What if it happened tomorrow? What if I was already too late? I didn’t know where in the story I was. I didn’t know what Seraphina had already done. I didn’t know if Malakai already hated me. The maid still stood frozen behind me, looking completely lost. And somehow that made everything worse. Because this world was real to her. But to me— It was a story. A story where everyone watched Seraphina die like she deserved it. Another sob escaped before I could stop it. I covered my mouth quickly, shoulders shaking as panic crashed through me in waves. “I don’t understand…” I whispered helplessly. “Why her…?” Why not the heroine? Why not someone safe? Why the woman everyone hated? The maid looked terrified now. Like she didn’t know whether to comfort me or run. And suddenly— A horrible thought hit me so hard it stole the air from my lungs. What if he was already here? My breathing stopped instantly. No. No no no. Not him. Not yet. I remembered his expression too clearly. Cold silver eyes. Steady hands. No hesitation while Seraphina begged for her life. A knock echoed through the room. I flinched so hard I nearly stumbled backward again. Then the maid spoke quietly. “Lady Seraphina…” Her voice sounded nervous now. “Alpha Malakai has arrived.” My entire body went cold.
