The river daughters climbing out of unsealed pods before he began his fiery assault were now aiming the full torrent of their vengeance at him. Snarling and hissing at Aeron like animals, they broke free of their slimy husks and started towards him. Melia got to her feet and ran to his side as they attempted to converge upon him, swinging her dagger and forcing them to scatter before they could use their dreaded powers to subdue her Prince.
One of the creatures broke away from the others and was moving to intercept him as he moved from lamp to lamp, anticipating his movements upon divining his plan. Aeron saw her approach and lit an arrow with one of the ignited torches before shooting it into her chest. She screeched with pain as her body glowed with the dancing tongues of flames.
