CHAPTER 2

It was finally 18th January, the day Vanessa was slated to start working. She was the happiest person. She woke up early and took her bath and wore her newly bought dress and shoes which Alice gave to her as a congratulatory gift. She hummed and sang with so much delight "Oh s**t I am almost late". Oh, Vanessa said as she looked at the wall clock. "Come down, you still have a whole forty-five minutes on your side, you are just anxious" Alice said, smiling. "yeah I know, but you also know it's my first day at work so I am supposed to be there early. Anyway, I will be in my way now" "Okay dearest, I wish you the best today. Have a nice day" Alice said to Vanessa "thank you, also have a very nice day too" Vanessa said as she left the house.

Finally, Vanessa got to the firm. Everyone there seemed to mind their business. She was confused about what to do. "excuse me, I am the newly employed secretary to the CEO" "ooh okay, go to that office over there" the lady said as she pointed to an office. "Okay thank you so much", Vanessa said and went to where she was directed. On getting there, she saw a door plaque which read secretary's office. When she saw this, she then knew that was her office. She went into the office. It was spacious. She saw her name on the table, so she began setting her things in the office.

Soon enough, the CEO, Mr Richard Styles, walked into Vanessa's office, the one who Vanessa had very much admired during her interview. Now she was able to see his height. He was a tall man. "Good morning sir" she said as she quickly got up. "Good morning, I am Mr Richard Styles, the CEO of Styles Tech Firm. You are my secretary and I expected nothing less than the best from you", he said to Vanessa. "Okay sir, I promise to give my very best", she said "good". Well, he replied and left the office. While Vanessa was working on some files given to her by the accountant, the PBX in her office rang. She quickly picked it up. "Hello, it is the secretary here. May I help you" she asked. "This is Mr Richard. She has come to my office now". She immediately left for Mr Richard's office. "Yes sir" Vanessa said as she got into his office, "work on these files. I need them by 8:30am tomorrow" Mr Richard said, "okay sir". She said as she was about to leave the office, Mr Richard called her back. "That reminds me I was told by the accountant that he gave you two files to treat. I need them both by 5pm today" "okay sir" Vanessa said as she left the office. "phew this is a whole lot of work,, so I, treat these two files in just three hours," she said to herself as she looked at her wrist watch. At exactly 5pm, Mr Richard called her to bring the files. "Here are the files sir" she said while handing over the files to him. ", hope there are no mistakes", he said with a steely look. "No sir there are no mistakes. I was very careful" she said, "you can leave my office.

Vanessa had closed for the day and headed home. As soon as she got home, she sat on the bed. Alice was already back from work before Vanessa got back. "How was your first day at work", Alice said with so much curiosity. "It was fine but very stressful. My boss is very strict" she said ". Oh, that is how it is. Some days might be draining, while some days are not like that", Alice said. "My boss is very handsome. I think I have a crush on him", Vanessa said, smiling. "That's interesting. It is good you admire your boss. At least you have a reason to always be at the office", Alice said in the midst of laughter.

It has been seven months now since Vanessa started working with the tech firm and Mr Richard does not seize any opportunity to frustrate Vanessa, but still Vanessa still saw herself falling in love with Mr Richard. "Vanessa, why haven't you submitted the files I gave you" Mr Richard said "you said I should bring it to you by 4pm today the time now is 3:20pm sir" she quickly said "excuse me are trying to tell me what to do? Are you trying to challenge me?" "No sir I could never do that, I am sorry sir, please give me ten minutes. I will bring the file" she said nervously. "I am giving you ten minutes if you do not bring it to my office. With that time your salary will be deducted, leave my office", "okay sir' she said and left the office.

"I am so tired. I do not know why Mr Richard hates me this much. He gives me so much work to do and complains about everything I do", Vanessa said to Alice as she cried, like "What he is doing is really bad. But what I do not understand is why you still like him", Alice said to Vanessa. "Let me prepare dinner for us both, it seems you are really exhausted" "Thank you so much", Vanessa said as she forced out a smile.

"Good morning Sir Mr Smith sent an email to you, he says he would like to set up a meeting with you". Vanessa said with fear. "Okay, tell him to meet with me in my office by 1pm tomorrow. By the way, when you speak to me, comport yourself. properly you do not have to fidget all the time I am not with a gun" Mr Richard said "okay sir"
