Nathaniel looked at the files again and panicked a bit. It was of course ‘His Anastasia Taylor.' Same lady who broke his heart five years ago. Just the thought of her name and memories began to rush in like wind as his mind traveled five years back after an ecstatic night with Ana.
Nathaniel couldn't help but smile at how beautiful Ana looked as the ray of the sun made her skin glow more than usual. His Anastasia.
He liked her the instant they met at Daniel's birthday party five months ago, they actually connected instantly. He didn't get close at first as he thought she was his brother's girlfriend. Daniel isn't exactly one to commit to a relationship, so he was more than happy when he dismissed his assumptions.
“Ana is just some girl I went to school with. She happens to know Victoria from college." Daniel said.
" How come I never saw her, not even once?” Nathaniel asked.
“You were our senior, plus, she was probably too busy helping us with our assignments. We pay her to do the tedious school work for us and she needs the money badly and we prefer to have fun.’’ Daniel replied naughtily.
He tried to get to know her, but for some reason, she avoided him until five months ago. As a matter of fact, Ana was the reason Nathaniel came for the birthday party.
Time had passed so quickly and their friendship grew stronger almost a year later and now, he can't believe she was lying next to him.
The buzz of messages from her phone woke her up. She slowly opened her eyes and saw him smiling at her. She returned the smiled shyly, face flushed and reached out for her phone.
It was a message from Victoria, pleading to keep the information she was about to share with her confidential. So she replied to the text in agreement.
He interrupted her with a kiss keeping her phone aside. She avoided his eyes which made Nathaniel frown.
“Do you regret last night? 'cos I don't.”
She shook her head. Still avoiding his eyes. "I'm just a bit shy and embarrassed. No one had ever seen me naked before now."
“Oh… well, I guess that makes me a lucky man. Don't be shy. Remember you are now ‘my Anastasia' so, you shouldn't be shy or even embarrassed.” He said looking in her eyes. And in response she nodded.
“I have to take a shower and head home so I can properly get ready for work.” Then he stood up to do so.
She grabbed her phone and saw a screenshot of conversations between Nathaniel and Victoria.
Ana froze in shock as she couldn't believe what she just saw. She blinked and tears poured out and she silently sobbed.
Nathaniel came out of the bathroom and hurriedly dressed up, he was about to plant a kiss on her forehead when he noticed her countenance had changed.
“Are you okay Anastasia?" He asked in confusion, cleaning her wet cheeks. He got the shock of his life and she pushed his hands away.
“You’re just like the others. I thought I could trust you Nathaniel!”
“Confused and clueless, he asked. "what are you talking about Anastasia?”
"Nathan, I cannot do this with you right now, you need to leave, I really thought I could actually trust you." That wasn't the answer he was hoping to get, yet he couldn't help but wonder why. She said nothing, but the pain in her eyes broke his heart. She got up and wrapped the sheets over her body to go into the bathroom. He could tell that she was still sore from last night.
He had never felt that level of hurt in his entire life. How could Ana even say that to him? Confused and clueless, he asked again.
"What the hell does that even mean? You can't be serious." He scoffed trying to maintain composure with hopes that Ana was joking. With the look on her face, she wasn't.
He sighed in confusion. "Hold on, since when did you decide that you can no longer trust me? What did I even do?" She simply looked at him again and ran into the bathroom. He could hear her soft sobs and he got even more confused.
'He must really think I am an idiot.' Ana thought as she regretted promising Victoria that she wouldn't mention anything about the message source to Nathaniel.
"Anastasia, please, you have to talk to me, you can't say a thing like this and not tell me what you mean." Nathaniel said, knocking on the bathroom door.
She came out wrapped in her robe and found him still sitting. She got infuriated while fighting back the tears. “Nathaniel, please, just go away'’
"No, Ana, I'm sorry, but I won't leave until you tell me exactly what the hell is going on. We've been friends for over a year and now you say you cannot trust me and you expect me to leave? Just like that?"
He wasn't going to leave until he got a response and Ana, knowing how stubborn he can be, decided she'd leave instead.
"Ensure to lock my door on your way out. I cannot stand you right now." She was walking to the door when he tried to stop her and that was where she lost it.
Accompanied with a slap, she screamed! "Get the hell out of my house Nathaniel and I don't ever want to see you again. Just go away. Get out.”
Nathaniel watched her in shock as she drew in a long breath and calmly said. "All I am to you is some one night stand whom you possibly can't have anything with, because I am after your money. I have been hurt before, but I have never been this insulted. So, thank you Nathaniel. Just go away"
She failed to hold her tears back and she hated that she actually felt something for Nathan even though they were friends and almost something more, or so she thought. What he did was demeaning and she couldn't take it.
Nathaniel could not believe what was going on, he hated to see Ana cry, he hated it even more that he was the reason for her tears even though he had no single idea what she was accusing him of and he even got slapped for it. But he had to respect her wish and go.
"Whatever this is, you're wrong, Anastasia. So wrong. I have no freaking idea what you're talking about" These were the only words he could say with so much hurt in his voice, as he stormed out.
Sitting in his car, He still couldn't believe what just happened. Nathaniel had never been this confused his whole life. He finally told Ana how he felt about her and this happened. He could have sworn that she felt something for him too.
Something wasn't right and he felt helpless as he couldn't figure it out.
"I'll figure this out!" He said and drove off angrily!
Nathaniel sighed back to reality and realized he was still hurt. But that was not a problem. It was a long time ago, he was still young and naive. He is sure she also moved on as she never bothered to contact him after all those years.
Why was his heart racing faster than usual at the thought of seeing Anastasia again after five years? If he is going to pull off his carefully crafted plan, he has to keep his act together.
