Mission Zero

--Day 2--

Josh

Aaron had given me a reassessment on my skills and passions the next ‘morning’. I ended up rooming with Chad- he was a really nice guy actually. He didn’t treat me like some i***t.

That aside, Aaron ended up partnering me up with Maxi and Denise. They were pretty nice too, though Maxi was a bit of an oddball. Denise was a good instructor and I found myself able to follow along with ease and learn. Maxi had some of the most off-the-wall facts- just in general. I knew they specialized as our nutritionist, but I would’ve guessed they were a scientist with some sort of doctorate.

I helped prepare meals and snacks throughout the day and usually wandered the ship during my free time. I won’t lie, not having much to entertain ourselves with was brutal. There were a couple of people who would stare out the giant window of the main deck, but there really wasn’t much to see. There was only so much small talk people could make anyways- or at least I thought so.

I found Aaron, Jacob, and Benny at the giant window. I didn’t know much about Jacob, but Benny came off as some sort of caretaker and Aaron had a general good vibe. I wouldn’t describe myself as shy, but I wasn’t the most charismatic one out there- not that I’d ever admit it though.

“Hey! How’re you guys?” I interrupted their conversation, getting the three’s attention.

“Good, talking about our roommates so far.” Aaron offered, and I took that as an invitation.

“Sora does not f*****g sleep- she was walking around the room the entire time.” Aaron laughed. He didn’t sound like he was complaining though- in fact, he sounded amused. “I think I might have to give her a room for herself though for now until we come across a heavy sleeper.” he mentioned.

“I could try with her,” Jacob offered, giving a slight shrug. “Seeing as nobody’s roomed with me yet. So long as it’s dark, I should be alright; and I can understand insomnia too.” He didn’t seem very confident in his suggestion.

“You don’t have to- I know you wouldn’t be very comfortable with that.” Aaron shook his head, a kind look on his face.

“Can’t have Amber give her some sleeping stuff?” Josh questioned cluelessly.

“I try not to make anyone take medication if it’s not necessary. I’m sure most of us are having some anxiety that’s keeping us up- Besides, I don’t think you should have to thrash your liver to get some sleep. Believe me- I’m not against medication, I’d just rather it not be the first go-to.” Aaron explained, making his opinion clear.

“Think I could room with you, Aaron?” Benny piped up. “Not gonna lie, Maxi is a little creepy.”

“I think I’ll assign rooms to those who are complaining. I know Denise got wrapped up into rooming with Envy and she’s not too comfortable- and I think River would like her company instead of being alone. Jamie seems to be getting along really well with Amber, so I’ll leave them together.” Aaron threw a wink at Benny like there was some sort of secret between them. “Josh, you like sleeping with Chad?”

Josh blinked at him. “Huh? Oh, yeah. He’s nice.”

“Alright, I’ll have Anubis give everyone a notice when I have everything together. I want everyone to be as comfortable as possible.
