“YOU CAN’T DO that to the poor old boy!”
“Jamie; I can’t help it. It’s all working out with Neil now. We’re going to give it one more try.”
“Peter will be devastated. He loves you, I know.”
Listening to Jamie’s voice on the other end of the telephone, she was suddenly flooded with guilt and remorse.
“I was just using him as a security blanket, and that’s not really fair on anyone. He needs to find somebody who loves him.”
“I take it you haven’t told him then?”
“No, not yet. I can’t bring myself to do it.”
“Do it soon, for both your sakes.”
“I will. How’s the move going?”
“Contracts will be exchanged next Friday.”
“Give me a ring when I can come and visit.”
“Sure will. Bye for now.”
