CHAPTER 9 THE AROMA OF frying bacon assailed her nostrils as she turned the key in the lock. She gave a tut of annoyance. Bloody cheek! “What are you doing here?” She felt a hot flush starting as she strode into the kitchen, not even stopping to hang up her coat. “That’s my bacon!” “Sorry, but I’ve been driving for hours. I’m starving.” She sweated and glared at her husband as he ate a slice of toast and stirred four rashers around in the frying pan with a fork. “Buy your own sodding bacon!” “I haven’t come all the way down here to argue about bacon. I’ve come to make sure you’re alright.
