MY TORMENTED MIND

CHAPTER TWO I put my house keys in my bag, holding onto the car keys as I went to the driveway. One of the things that was a strong rule for Apollo and his family was that I don't work. I was supposed to be a good little wife and stay home, while Apollo flew all over the world on business. He didn't take me anywhere either. It was like I'd been married just to become like one of his bronze awards. He'd done very well and he always got awards yearly as business man of the year,or awards for his philanthropy. Now those events I was brought along to, dressed to the nines. Well I was truly done keeping all their rules now. Just yesterday I'd faxed him the divorce papers. I felt like I could breath again. And the air sure smelled different. Like I could taste my freedom already. Soon, very soon, I reassured myself. Whatever reason Apollo had had for marrying me years ago weren't going to hold him now. And he had no feelings for me asides the pitiful s****l attraction. Or perhaps he just used my body for release when he needed to. I knew he kept other women. He'd never made it a secret, throwing them In my face, every slight chance he got. I removed my mind from Apollo. I was going on something new, something that was all for myself, and I wouldn't allow anything ruin this new chance at a life I'd always wanted. I'd applied to intern for a couple of months at a tech company in the business district area. I'd applied using my maiden name. If anyone caught wind of me being Apollo's wife, they'd surely not take me on and they'd run to Apollo too. The company had accepted me as a temporary intern. If I was good enough with my skills, I'd get retained after a period of six months. The tech industry is filled with talents that don't have a college degree. I had always been a geek in school, hoping that one day have my own start up, but I hadn't even gotten to go to college. But that didn't mean I won't try my hands at companies that accept a high school diploma and nothing more. I got to Carver's, and on entering the building, a towering skyscraper,I was immediately reminded of the story I'd read on the owner of the company, sole CEO. He'd been just twenty two when he'd tried his hands at developing a social media app and platform. This had blown up as people had greatly found the user interface of the app exciting and easy to use. He'd even gotten awards for something about being a young and talented developer. Fresh out of college, a few years later he'd built the company from scratch. Of course his apps dividends greatly helped. His tech was often touted to be the best at each specific purpose it was designed for and he employed a vast team of skilled tech people from programmers to hackers. He tested his own products to ensure security of it and check the risk of stealing his designs. I was interning in a department that worked directly with Carver I heard. I wondered if I'd meet him today, although I was just here today for the basics. I didn't start officially until the following day. I acquainted myself with a host of people I'd be working with and under as I said my hellos. I got the basic informations down and headed through to the designs department itself to see a few pros at work. I stood watching until glances from a few of them clued me in on the fact that it was time to go. I left for home feeling a peace I hadn't felt in a long time. I was even beginning to like myself again. I parked in the driveway and headed up the stairs entering the house and meeting Harriet, our house keeper, who was also the only friend I'd had for years when I was cooped up inside. I greeted her warmly."Hi Harriet." I gave her a full on hug. Harriet always smelled of softener she used on the laundry. It wasn't an unpleasant smell and it was one I had come to associate her with. She engulfed me in her full bosom, rocking me back and forth for a while. "You look weary my dear,"she said tutting. Harriet was one of the few that made this place feel like home sometimes. She was always looking to feed me. We had a live in chef, but he was male and Apollo had expressely forbidden me having chats and anything with any male. He also got angry if he saw me chatting with the "help". It was another area in my life I hoped I could be free from during and after the divorce too. "Have you had anything to eat today?" Harriet asked as I shook my head no. I'd left early to beat traffic. "You have to take care of yourself." She remarked, beginning to set the table. After eating in the kitchen with Harriet, I spent a few hours aimlessly exploring the estate, wondering to what would be Apollo's reaction when he saw the papers. Part of me hoped he'd sign the papers and let me go without so much as a sit down, the other part of me worried about Apollo's anger and arrogance. He'd always loved remarking, that a wife was the husband's property and I belonged to him. By seven, I was back in the bedroom running a hot bath. I filled it with thick foam, smling as I sank into the water. I emerged from the bath tub after a long soak. It had been rejuvenating and the pounding between my eyes had receded during the soak. Toweling my self dry,I froze. Was that the sound of cars I had just heard? A deep rumbling from a car I knew Apollo drove. Apollo's Benz made that rumbling sound, the car itself was deathly silent but the engine when revved was something else. I hurried to my bedroom window which overlooked the driveway to check who or what it was. My breath stuck in my chest as I sighted Apollo's Benz. HE WAS HERE
