"Don't be." I placed my hand on her knee and noticed that her dress had ridden up on the car ride here. The contrast of my rough finger pads against her smooth summer skin shot a jolt of electricity racing up my back. Something pulled taut behind my abs like a turning key in its socket, unlocking something feral, and now I knew it wasn't the late-night burgers. I had it bad for her. I withdrew my hand casually, ignoring the thudding in my chest. "Instead of apologizing, watch your future," I told her curtly. "Oh, sure, Daddy." Klaus rolled her eyes. "Repeat that," I grumbled. "No. I was kidding. I'd much prefer to be an orphan." I chuckled. "Want to be scooped up by Gravity?" "No thanks. See you three days."
