2381 Words

A R I A I blink at him, thrown for a second, my heart racing so fast I can feel my pulse ringing in my ears. "Hi," I say, brushing my hair out of my face. "How are you?" He shrugs, the leather of his jacket creaking as he reaches up to take off his helmet to look at me. "I'm alright. You?" He asks casually and from his tone he doesn’t seem to sound so upset… I hope he isn’t… I hesitate. I want to say I'm fine. That’s all I’ve been telling people who ask. I want to say that everything's great. That I'm totally holding it together. But something about the way he's looking at me… steady, so calm and collected, makes lying feel pointless. "I'm..." I start, but he cuts me off, a glint of mischief in his eyes. "You don't look so great," he says bluntly. Then adds, smirking, "As usual."
