Krissi sipped the sugar and caffeine, and let the combination wake her brain while she listened to Ruger recount what she’d said about possible reasons her father would have done this. Tuck was watching Ruger as he spoke but he kept glancing at her as if trying to gauge her reaction or the truth behind the words. She wasn’t sure which. The soda either wasn’t doing its job or she was just too tired to care. They talked around her but she was still half asleep and had a hard time following. It was almost as if they were speaking in code. Something finally penetrated her sleep-hazed brain.
