The large wooden doors opened in front of Carla. The first things her eyes fell on were a boy and a girl, not more than five years old, sprawled on a small mattress on the floor. Tired, exhausted and weak.  Carla recognised their brown hair and pale lips. Even as their eyes were closed.  They were her twins, her babies. The ones she had come all this way to find, they were the one thing she could give her life for without thinking twice.  Her children were alive! And she could see them once again, she could hold them.  Ignoring the pain in her chest and the more throbbing one in her throat, Carla smiled even as she was pushed to the floor by the guards.
