The ambient temperature of the air outside the hospital was characterised by the dry heat of the sun-baked concrete.
Victor and Kane proceeded down the steps in tandem. The automatic doors closed slowly behind them, effectively isolating the subjects from the external environment. This included the odour of disinfectant, the hum of medical equipment, and the hushed atmosphere of the ward. Upon reaching the perimeter of the parking area, Kane found himself unable to contain his urge to turn and gaze at Victor.

Victor selected two cigarettes from the packet, distributing one to the other person and then assuming a crouched posture in order to ignite his own. He then took a drag, expelling the accumulated air from his lungs.
