Chapter Two

660 Words
She sniffed hard and the borders called to her in a singsong. Almost there, she judged herself on. Almost there. And she pressed on. Her feet eating up the distance between her and the border in alarming speed. And it alarmed them alright, for four more wolves pressed forward. If she took the other five into consideration, it would seem their ultimate plan was to have her surrounded. An intimidating stance. One she excelled at. With a small smile, Drew made a beeline for the two wolves before her, smirking at their displayed fighting stance. Until she was but two paces away, and swerved with such great force that for a moment - a slim moment, almost minuscule - she doubted her own calculation; and drove a fist into the left eye on the unsuspecting wolf rushing forward barometer the initial five. Eliciting a deep growl of pain, his head snapped to the side from the sheer force of the blow. A quick satisfying attack there, but she didn’t wait to watch and bask in the sheer pleasure of her unrivaled strength and awakening prowess. Before the remaining four could fully comprehend and think of a counterattack, Drew launched herself into the air and landed with a claw embedded deep into the head of another wolf. Gravity lending her a hand as the claws sank deeper than calculated and when she swung back, ripped his head off his body. She quickly flung her arm, extracting her claws as she did, and sent the decapitated head into the air like her own very personal missile. Straight into the other wolf obviously angered by her actions and rushing up to her in maddening speed. Sending it falling face first with a growl. She fell to the vibrating soaked earth on one knee and a bloodied fist. Drew listened to their angry howls and thundering steps and waited. Three down. Six more to go. Throw in the border which was so close, and there was a formidable equation. She waited. Counting each second, counting each accelerated heart beat. Weighing every thunderous pulse. Two took to the air. Teeth bared and claws brandished in a bloodthirsty appeal. She began to fall with her back to the ground - but didn’t stop at that. Her body lost its density and swerved to the left, bringing her directly in between the two air-borne wolves; and with claws itching to wreak more havoc, Drew tore simultaneously at the exposed bellies of the wolves. Casting their accounts without any regret amidst a rain of warm blood and dark water. She waited for a moment and stamped a foot to the ground and rose without any trouble. Just in time to dove a briefly claw and rip the offending arm off its joint. The growl of anguish a refrain to those of the dead duo that had dropped to the ground with a trembling thud. Bloodied, soaked and desperate, hair plastered all about her head, Drew launched herself forward and narrowed the distance between her and the border with very great effort. And to swerve to the side to fantastically dodge the body of Duncan as he launched himself bodily at her to stop her. Slowly, she rose to her feet and grinned widely at him, and even more so when he bared his teeth in an enraged snarl. Her lungs heaved and she let out a full blown bowl of dark laughter. Rage surged like molten lava through Duncan as he watched the frail woman before him, all bloodied, laugh hysterically in his face. His golden eyes narrowed. She arched a dark brow at him and her shoulders quaked in uncontrolled mirth. “Well, well, well,” she mocked in her singsong voice. The things that voice did to him. “I’ll say, that was quite -“ she paused as if in search of words. Words he knew were nothing but fuel to his rage. An insult.
