Chapter. Eight

800 Words
It’s time to finish this, Drew, Vincentia’s voice fleeted through the mind link; and she blinked with a smile. Only to swerve to the side to dodge a sailing wolf that ran right into his enraged Alpha. That won’t be funny, Drew mused with a Cheshire Cat smile. Instantly, she picked up and using the two tangled wolves as stairs, made a beeline for a waiting Flint and Ian who looked none too pleased to engage her in a fight. The strings of love and loyalty vicious. But fight she must and a life she must take. She stretched out her hands and retracted them the instant Ian reached for them and twisted in the air to make a turn and with claws around Felicita’s neck drew her backwards with her. Her gleaming dilated mismatched eyes fixed upon a furious and approaching Alpha. Slowly, she smiled - and winked. In that instant, the trio rushed forth. “Watch,” Drew whispered in the ear of a trembling Felicita. “Watch their very last valiant effort to save you.” Claws stretched and elongated, swiftly tore her neck from her shoulder and yanked her heart from her chest through her back. Blood splashed and gushed. Pity, she mused. What a shame. Regardless of the angry growl, Drew lowered her body and skidded past with the slippery aid of the river of blood; and let her bloodied claws s***h at Duncan’s calves. She didn’t stop until she was at the door. Using her claws to halt her movement, she rose all bloodied and agog, heart secured in hand. A grey sleek SUV swerved, tires screeching, and engine roaring, door ajar. In a surge of air, she sailed a smug look on her face at Duncan’s relentless but futile attempt to reach her. Once settled in the car, that never came to a halt but skidded determinedly across the ground, throwing dust and unearthing pebbles this way and that, the door slammed shut. Concealing her victorious smile and a cooler was immediately presented to her where she placed the heart in the cocoon of ice blocks. “How many hearts have we acquired today?” “Thirty-two,” came Dora’s response. Okay icing her hands with the black towel handed to her, Drew leaned back with a contented sigh. “Thirty-two off the waiting list.” She beamed. “I believe a gift to Durrow pack would be satisfactory for their efforts in helping heart-diseased patients,” Vincentia said and they all laughed. “I say,” the spiky red haired said. “it’s a good day for a thirty-two based charity.” They laughed again. As their card sped off rather recklessly in a cloud of dust, the conversation within became more animated and somewhat comfortable. They escaped. The entire pack suffered a deadly silence following the m******e and escape of their attacker; more so, for the death of their new - Luna. But then wasn’t that the missing Luna that had plotted the m******e? Why would the Alpha wed another when his wife and Luna remained? Suspicion fast on the wings of fear and panic rode the pack. Duncan looked down at the decapitated torn body of his new bride, lying forlornly and dejected in the pool of her own blood and felt the bike taste of his rage. “How,” he began. “had she entered pack grounds, murder my warriors and my new bride? How?!” he demanded through clenched teeth. “What we’re the patrol teams doing at these precise moments?” As if conjured by his irate query, Todd hurried forward as fast as he could with his bloodied and torn body, panting. Ian squeezed his eyes shut. Flint but down hard in his lower lip. Duncan’s eyes turned golden even in his human form. “Forgive me, Alpha,” Todd was saying through split lips. “But a group of females launched a sudden attack in us.” His head bowed in defeat and submission. “We failed.” Duncan howled out in rage and began to rain when Todd who had apparently lost a lot of blood dropping into unconsciousness. Madness. Everyone had just up and gone bunkers - straight in mad -, otherwise why would this be happening! “Once again,” Organ Donor Specialist Kim Norton beamed with all mushy gratitude. “on behalf of the recipients and the hospital, we thank you so much.” “How much?” Splush chided. Doctor akin Norton beamed in tears at her. “A truckfull?” Splash asked. “A shipload full?” Vincentian chipped in. Drew grinned. Doctor Kim Norton sniffed and shook Drew’s hand clasped in hers. “A universefull,” she whispered and they shared a small laugh.
