CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR Riverside Retreat looked even grander in real life than it had done on the website picture, Stella thought, as they sped up to the main gate. The building was palatial, and it was set in exquisite, rolling countryside. “Can’t be a rehab center. No fences,” Maxwell observed, as they drove up the long, winding driveway and parked in the paved lot, alongside a few luxury vehicles. Stella nodded. Maxwell’s observation was correct. The gates at the bottom of the driveway were wide open and there were no guards or security personnel in attendance. Rehab centers always had walls, or fences, as well as some sort of security in place. The front door stood wide. From beyond, warm lighting illuminated the reception hall, giving it a welcoming feel.
