That night we had barely gotten rest. After Daniel’s loss we had covered his mother with a blanket and had gone back to Daniel’s place to find a shovel. When the moon was high above us, we dug a hole close to the stream where she had passed and wrapped her in the blanket before burying her under a pile of dirt.
We watched in silence the place where we had buried Daniel’s mother and slowly, left Daniel alone to mourn his mother in peace. Elizabeth, Jonas and I had gone back to Daniel’s place, I was surprised he had acceded to letting us come back alone but he was too hurt to care if he didn’t know us much.
Jonas took the floor as he wrapped a blanket around him and let Elizabeth and I take a couch each. Elizabeth laid on the smallest one and a heavy silence fell over us.
