Two days after the news of Sarah Taylor’s death and the search for her missing daughter had become headline news across the nation, Detective Sergeant Pat Travers returned to work after a mild case of Covid. As soon as he’d sat at his desk, intending to log on and work through his inbox, he was summoned into Detective Inspector Smith’s office. ‘Have a seat, Pat,’ said Inspector Smith. ‘How are you feeling?’ ‘Right as rain, sir.
