Her Honour Judge Margaret Rutherford, Chief Magistrate of South Australia, awoke with a start, surprised she’d slept at all. She’d tried to stay awake in the hope someone would come to her rescue but, since she was still in the same room, it was obvious no-one had. She wondered if anyone even knew she’d been abducted, let alone knew where she was being held captive. In the dull glow of the light illuminating the room from a tiny window high in the wall above her head, she looked around her prison, and a prison it had been made to look. It was as if they’d studied the layout of a typical prison cell and constructed one to hold her in. The room was about the size of the small second bedroom in her apartment, but it only had the one small window, which she couldn’t reach even when she stood
