When Ethan walked out of the venue, the sky was already darkening.
Charles looked at Ethan, full of gratitude. "Ethan, we owe you so much today. Otherwise, I would have lost everything!"
Ethan smiled. "Dad, what are you talking about? We're family!"
Charles was filled with relief. "Yes, yes! We are family, and we should help each other!"
Charles picked up July and doted on her. "July, what do you want to eat tonight? Grandpa will buy it for you!"
July's eyes lit up. "Grandpa, I want fried chicken!"
Charles laughed. "Alright! We'll have fried chicken tonight!"
Watching the joyful interaction between her father and daughter, Sophia brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and smiled wryly. "Dad, too much junk food is bad for July's health. If you spoil her too much, she'll be ruined!"
However, Charles glared at Sophia, "She's my granddaughter. If I don't spoil her, who will? Besides, I'm already this old. How many more years do I have to spoil her?"
Sophia wanted to say more, but Ethan gently pulled her back, smiling, "Alright, don't put Dad off!"
Throughout the journey, the car was filled with laughter, and Ethan's face was adorned with a warm smile. This sense of simple happiness was truly wonderful!
Suddenly, the screeching sound of urgent brakes rang out as a large truck blocked their car. With quick reflexes, Ethan sharply turned the steering wheel, and the car skidded to a stop. Thanks to his excellent driving skills, he stabilized the car without causing a serious accident.
Sophia, sitting in the passenger seat, was still in shock, mumbling, "W-what happened?"
Ethan didn't respond. Instead, he gripped the steering wheel tightly, staring intently at the large truck that had suddenly appeared in front of them, his eyes filled with dark thoughts.
'Something is wrong! This road is very sparsely trafficked, and the road is extremely wide. Under normal driving conditions, it’s impossible for the truck to collide with us unless... the truck driver did it on purpose, intending to create an accident to kill my family!'
Ethan's eyes flashed with a sharp glint, and his voice became incredibly serious. "Everyone, hold on tight!"
With that, Ethan quickly shifted into reverse. However, just as he was about to back up and leave, the sound of several urgent brakes echoed. Looking in the rear-view mirror, Ethan saw several shabby vans parked chaotically on the road, completely blocking his way out!
There was no time to think. Ethan swiftly turned the car, positioning the passenger side against the roadside. He pushed open the passenger door, grabbed Sophia, and said in an unusually serious tone, "Sophia, run back! Go find Ghost Wolf and ask him to come here and save us!"
At this moment, the car was positioned by the roadside, and the passenger side was right next to a dimly lit narrow alley! This meant that Sophia was the most likely to escape because, given Charles's age and the fact that they had little July with them, they wouldn't be able to run fast enough and would be caught.
At this moment, the doors of the vehicles behind them opened, and several burly figures emerged one after another. Under the dim streetlights, each person held a gun in their hand!
Seeing this, Sophia turned pale with fright, unable to utter a word.
Ethan quickly surveyed the surroundings and assessed the number of enemies. He might have a chance to deal with these armed assassins if he were alone. But now, with his family and three ordinary people to protect, escaping from so many armed killers was nearly impossible.
Ethan made a decision. Grabbing Sophia's hand, he urgently said, "Sophia, we're not far from home! You are our only hope! Whether we can get out of here alive depends on you!"
Ethan pushed her out of the car without waiting for Sophia to respond. "Go! Run!"
Ethan's urgent shout brought Sophia back to her senses. She bit her lip hard, glanced at Ethan, and took advantage of the darkness to slip away without being noticed.
By this time, the assassins were gradually closing in!
In the back seat, Charles held July tightly, his face full of tension. "Ethan, what's happening?"
Ethan's eyes were as sharp as an eagle's, staring outside the window. His voice was incredibly serious. "Dad, hold on to July. If you get a chance, run immediately! Don't worry about me!"
After saying this, Ethan grabbed the driver's door. With a powerful effort, he ripped the entire door off! Then, using it as a weapon, he threw it directly at the approaching assassins.
The sudden move stunned the assassins! Seeing the large door flying towards them, they instinctively scattered to avoid it!
Taking advantage of this brief moment, Ethan shouted, "Run!" Ethan led Charles and July towards the roadside at full speed in an instant.
By the roadside, not far from Ethan, was a dense greenbelt. If they could get into the tree-covered greenbelt, their chances of escaping would increase significantly with the cover of the trees!
A killer with a scorpion tattoo on his face shouted, "D*mn it! They're trying to run! Mr. Peterson ordered us to kill, not capture! Fire!"
A barrage of gunfire erupted behind Ethan. He grabbed Charles and July, throwing them forcefully into the bushes to protect them.
Ethan quickly dodged and joined them in the undergrowth.
The killers, having lost their targets, ceased firing for the moment.
Charles, clutching July tightly, hid behind a thick tree, trembling all over. Looking at Ethan hiding behind another tree, Charles asked, "Ethan... who wants to kill us?"
Ethan's eyes were filled with deep coldness. He had heard them mention "Mr. Peterson" earlier. Given the killers' audacity to shoot so recklessly in the city, it was definitely Eason's doing!
Ethan silently repeated the name 'Eason' in his mind, his face full of murderous intent. But now, he couldn't focus on his hatred. Getting them alive was the most important thing. He took a deep breath, calming himself, and carefully surveyed the surroundings in the dim light.
They hid behind a tree, about 70 feet away from a wall. Beyond the wall was a brightly lit street. They could escape to the street if they could get from their current position to behind the wall.
No matter how brazen the killers were, they wouldn't dare commit murder openly on a bustling street.
They were only 50 feet from the wall. At Ethan's speed, it would take less than three seconds! However, the enemies were searching all around, and without any cover, Ethan was sure that the moment he showed himself, he would be instantly spotted and shot.
The sound of footsteps crunching on fallen leaves grew closer. The killers were closing in! Ethan knew continuing to hide would leave them with no chance!
Ethan glanced at July, trembling in Charles's arms, and made a crazy decision. He quickly said, "Dad, I'll draw their attention. Take July and run to the wall behind us!"
Ethan instructed, "Remember, no hesitation!" He gambled with his life, exchanging his own for a slim chance for his father-in-law and daughter to survive!
