In front of the kindergarten, a line of people, over fifty meters long, stretched out. The parents there were all sweating profusely but no one left.
Ethan muttered, "Why are there so many people?"
Sophia sighed, "There's no helping it. What parent doesn't want the best education for their child? Angel Kindergarten is the best in the southern district, so competition is fierce."
They endured the blazing sun, waiting in line for a long time before finally reaching the office to complete the paperwork. Holding July's hand, Sophia walked into the room and warmly greeted the female teacher, "Hello, Miss, I would like to enroll my daughter."
The female teacher glanced coldly at Sophia and July's clothes, showing a hint of disdain. She waved her hand impatiently, "You're late. We can't take any more kids this year."
Sophia immediately became anxious. "Full? How can that be?"
Sophia was distraught. July was already five years old, which was considered old for starting kindergarten. She feared July would lose the chance to learn alongside other children if they missed this chance.
Sophia nervously said, "I checked before coming. The kindergarten is enrolling 500 children this intake. How could it be full in just over an hour?"
"Pah!"
The female teacher slammed the documents on the table. "What are you trying to say? Are you the teacher, or am I? If I say it's full, it's full."
The female teacher said unhappily, "Hurry up and leave! Don't delay others."
Seeing that something was wrong, Ethan, waiting at the door, walked over and asked softly, "What's wrong?"
Sophia bit her lip. "We're late. The spots are full. She told us to leave."
Ethan frowned lightly. "Full? That quickly?"
Sophia shook her head slightly. "Angel Kindergarten is a public kindergarten. Enrollment is always open and fair on a first-come, first-served basis. There's no other way."
As soon as she finished speaking, an arrogant voice sounded, "Ms. Seaton!" A wealthy woman adorned with jewelry, leading a chubby little boy, walked in arrogantly.
The wealthy woman glanced at Sophia and her family with a hint of arrogance in her eyes, then walked over to the desk and placed a bag on it, smiling, "Ms. Seaton, I was shopping today and saw this new designer bag. I thought it would suit you perfectly, so I brought it for you."
Ms. Seaton's face, which had been indifferent, broke into a smile at the sight of the luxury brand's logo on the bag, "Mrs. Turner, you didn't have to! You shouldn't have gone to such trouble."
Mrs. Turner laughed, "It's just a few thousand dollars, nothing much. No need to feel bad."
She then asked softly, "Ms. Seaton, about my son Kevin's enrollment..."
Ms. Seaton smiled, "Don't worry. Of course, we take care of our own here. I've not only reserved a spot for Kevin, but I've also placed him in our prestigious gifted class!"
Mrs. Turner was delighted, "Thank you so much, Ms. Seaton. A new beauty salon opened on Salinton Street a few days ago. When you have time, let's go check it out together."
Sophia interrupted loudly, "Excuse me, may I say something?"
Unable to hold back any longer after listening to their conversation, Sophia fixed her gaze on Ms. Seaton and coldly interrupted, "Ms. Seaton, didn't you just say the spots were all taken? According to Angel Kindergarten's rules, no one is allowed to reserve spots for children. I didn't see this lady and her child in the queue. How did they get a spot?"
Sophia continued angrily, "And I heard that the gifted class at Angel Kindergarten only admits twenty students. They must take a test, and only the top twenty scorers are accepted. The tests haven't even started. When did this child take the test?"
Ms. Seaton looked Sophia up and down and then sneered, "Who are you to question me? Here, I make the rules!"
Mrs. Turner spoke with heavy sarcasm, "Exactly! A poor commoner like you talking about rules? It's utterly ridiculous!"
Sophia said sternly, "You're blatantly accepting bribes and breaking the rules! Aren't you afraid I'll report you?"
Ms. Seaton sneered, "Report? Go ahead! The Education Commissioner of this district is my brother. What can you do even if you report me?"
Ms. Seaton said disdainfully, "Do you even know your place? Allowing you to line up outside Angel Kindergarten is already a great honor for someone like you! Do you know who Mrs. Turner is? You think you're her equal? Let me tell you the truth, there are plenty of spots still open, but what does that have to do with you commoners? If we are kind enough to give you a spot, you should be grateful. If not, get lost, understand?"
Sophia pointed at Ms. Seaton, trembling with anger, "Y-you..."
Suddenly, July screamed, "Ah! It hurts!"
Sophia turned around, seeing Kevin pulling July's hair hard while laughing gleefully.
Sophia screamed, "July!" and quickly pushed Kevin's hand away. The chubby boy fell backward and started crying loudly.
Mrs. Turner rushed over to hug Kevin, who cried and pointed at Sophia, "Mom! Hit her! Kill her!"
Mrs. Turner said, "Alright! Don't cry, Kevin, I'll kill her for you!"
Mrs. Turner stood up angrily, raised her hand high, and swung it toward Sophia. "You b*tch, how dare you hit my son! I'll kill you!"
