George's face turned grim.
Henry snorted, "George, you're not young anymore; you no longer know how to properly handle things. Your behavior today shows you're no longer fit to be director. Go back and handle the handover procedures, and let Lester take over your position!"
Originally ashen-faced, Lester brightened up upon hearing this. He ran to Henry's side, nodding and bowing, "Thank you, Mr. Turner. From now on, I, Lester, will be your most loyal subordinate!"
Ethan sneered, "Since when could political positions be given out so easily?"
Henry retorted arrogantly, "In the southern district, I call the shots! Whoever I want to promote gets promoted, and whoever I want to dismiss gets dismissed!" He then looked at Ethan haughtily, "Get lost already, stop making a fool of yourself here!"
Ethan said calmly, "Mr. Turner, from your tone, you're clearly the district commissioner. But to others, you might sound like a bandit! Aren't you afraid that your arrogance will one day lead to your downfall?"
Henry laughed heartily, "Afraid? Haha... This is my turf, what am I supposed to be afraid of? A commoner like you? The one who should be afraid now is you!"
Henry said viciously, "Was it you who slapped my wife?"
Ethan nodded, "Yes, it was me. Because she deserved it!"
Henry was stunned. He had expected Ethan to deny it or to cry and apologize, but he hadn't expected Ethan to admit it so arrogantly.
Henry couldn't help but praise him, "Good! Very good! I haven't seen someone as brave as you in a long time!"
Henry narrowed his eyes, carrying the authority of a superior, "I hope you keep this arrogance in prison!"
At that moment, George spoke up, "Mr. Turner! I advise you not to do this, or you will regret it!" George, knowing Ethan's identity, issued a "friendly" warning.
Henry laughed heartily, "Regret? Haha... I've never known what regret is! I don't know your relationship with this man, or what could make you so determined to protect him. But George, in my eyes, you're just a nobody. What qualifies you to protect him?"
Henry pointed at Ethan, "Today, I'll make you understand that offending me is like offending God! I'm not trying to bully you, but you slapped my wife, so I want your hand! You'd better cooperate, or else..."
Another voice interrupted, "Or else what, Mr. Turner?"
Henry looked toward the voice, and his arrogant expression froze. "Mr. Brown! What brings you here?" Brian Brown is the Attorney General of the southern district.
Henry's face turned pale. Although the Chief Prosecutor was equal to George's position in rank, the position also gave whoever held it significant power he did not have. The Attorney General of Crownspire's five districts had the authority to oversee the judiciary, monitor and prosecute officials. Attorney General Brian was someone Henry feared deeply.
Brian looked at Henry with righteous indignation, "What? Mr. Turner, are you not welcoming me?"
Henry was taken aback and said sheepishly, "Mr. Brown, you must be joking. Please, carry on with your business. I'll take my leave."
He turned to his wife, "Let's go."
However, Kevin rolled on the ground, "Dad, I don't want to go! That woman hit me; you have to kill her for me!"
Brian chuckled, "Mr. Turner, what a mighty presence you have. Wanting to kill someone over such a small matter?"
Sensing the sarcasm in Brian's tone, Henry's face darkened. "Mr. Brown, he's just a child, take nothing he says seriously."
Brian replied sternly, "But often, a child always speaks the truth!"
Henry squinted slightly, then turned to Ethan, as if seeing him for the first time. After examining him for a moment, he said meaningfully, "It seems I misjudged you. The district's Attorney General even comes here to back you up, let alone George, who is so keen to protect you."
Henry then walked slowly to Ethan, leaned in, and whispered, "But don't worry, as long as you're in the southern district, we'll have plenty of time to get acquainted. By the way, your wife and daughter are quite lovely. I hope I'll get the chance to get acquainted with them too." His tone was soft, but the threat was clear.
Brian shouted angrily, "Henry! Do you know what you're saying?!"
Henry looked at him innocently, "What did I say? Can't I make a new friend without you meddling, Mr. Brown?"
Ethan's voice was cold, "Mr. Turner! It seems you've been throwing your weight around for too long and have forgotten something. There are no supreme beings in this world. At the very least, a minor district commissioner like you isn't qualified!" Ethan cherished Sophia and July the most. Since Henry dared to threaten them, he was as good as dead in Ethan's eyes.
Henry gave Ethan a deep look, "Whether I'm qualified or not, we'll see. Let's go."
Ethan coldly said, "Stop!"
Ethan finally moved and walked up to Henry. Though they were at eye level, Ethan exuded a strong sense of oppression on him. "Did I say you could leave?"
Henry laughed, "Heh... I haven't broken any laws. Why shouldn't I be allowed to leave?"
Ethan repeated, "You haven't broken any laws? Or committed any crimes?" His tone was filled with deep sarcasm and doubt.
Henry replied earnestly, "If you say I have, then show me the evidence! Otherwise, with Mr. Brown here, I can accuse you of slander and defamation!"
Brian's face darkened. He walked to Ethan's side and whispered, "We've been monitoring Henry, but he's very good at hiding his misdeeds. We've found no evidence of his crimes."
Henry became even more arrogant, "Mr. Brown, if you think I've broken any laws, then by all means, bring your evidence to my office. I'll be happy to discuss it over coffee!"
Ethan's lips curled into a mysterious smile, "Mr. Turner, don't be in such a hurry. Just wait a moment. The evidence you want will be here shortly."
