One Stormy Night

' You are dangerous Yet I can't keep away from danger ' Eric and Damien took light steps through the forest. The darkness of the night provided a good cover for them. not like they had to worry about anyone seeing them anyways. No human could. Damien sighed for the hundredth time that day. He was extremely tired since he didn't have as much stamina as the prince beside him he couldn't keep on walking, which made it even more difficult to continue the journey without rest " can't we stop for just a few seconds? I'm dying here" " you were never alive, to begin with," the prince scorned " Still, I'm not as strong as you are. I can't go on for much longer if I don't rest" Eric stopped and turned to look at him, his eyes narrowed in disgust "Weakness is not something tolerable. It seems you don't realize the importance of this mission to the underworld" Damien rolled his eyes " Eric, I'm as much of a devil as you are and I desire nothing more than to fulfill this mission gracefully, but you have to understand that we already executed 9 contracts and only have one more before we can go back home, so just chill already" The prince didn't answer him but didn't insist on walking any further. Damien sighed, relieved. If he had to walk another mile any second he knew he would die for sure " you rest for a few seconds, I'll survey the surroundings" " wait, you can't go too far, your father asked me to protect you". Eric looked down at him with a mocking glint in his eyes Damien smiled. " alright, I know it's more of you protecting me but you can at least pretend I try. Go ahead" " I never asked for your permission" " Sure you didn't " Eric ignores him, hopping on a tree and feeling himself gravitating away. The wind blew against his hair as he flew to the highest point he could manage in this weak body, he looked down at the vast Forest. The endless green stretched for a long distance, it seemed they would have to fly if they wanted to reach their destination quicker A bird flew closer to him, a mocking Jay if he could remember the specie clearly. A curious little thing it was. Stretching a palm, the Little Bird landed modestly on it " puny creature" A bust of blue flames engulfed his palms turning the unsuspecting bird into a mold of ashes within seconds. His eyes once more focused on the green forest, and the animals roaming around it, all this disgusted him ' everything would look much better painted in red' Just wait until he becomes king. He would make a new world out of this wretched one * * * The next day was a Monday. Which meant it was the beginning of another week for Angela. Waking up early to dress for school, she proceeded downstairs to have breakfast. Her father had already gone out to work and her mother was also preparing to head to her place of work " Morning Mum" " Good Morning honey, are you ready for school?" " yeah, just getting breakfast" " all right, but remember to shut down all the lights before you leave and also lock the doors properly" " I get it. Have a good day at work" Her mother gave her a small hug before leaving the house. Angy focused on her breakfast on the kitchen table. She shoved the food down as quickly as she could A couple of minutes later and she was done. She put her used plate in the sink before making it to exit the house. She did as her mother instructed and turned off all the electricity in the house before finally heading out and locking the door behind her. It was only a 30-minute drive to her school, she needed to call a taxi fast or at least catch a bus if she didn't want to be late for lectures * * * Arriving at school just the moment the bell rang, she hastened her way to class running into a familiar face on the way " hey Angy " " hi Sam" Sam was her childhood friend and neighbor, they grew up together and knew each other since they were eight. Their parents were also close friends " had a busy morning?" " not really, rather boring actually " Sam hummed running a hand through his strawberry-blond hair. Did she forget to mention Sam also happened to be the most good-looking guy in school? He even had his fan club made mostly of girls who normally stalked him home. Angy didn't even know why he still chose to hang out with her after all these years. His father also owns a local church in their neighborhood, it was the one her grandmother used to attend before she became sick " I heard your grandmother wasn't feeling well, I hope she gets better soon" " thanks. I hope so too" 'Maybe then she wouldn't talk so crazy' On entering the class, she took her usual seat by a window and Sam took the seat next to her, the teacher hadn't yet started the class. That morning, Angy had been in too much of a hurry to tame down her messy brown locks, now, however, as it constantly got in her eyes, she was regretting that choice. Thankfully she had on a hairpin. She pinned it away from her face. Finally, she was able to see, she was about to bring her hand down but her wrist was held " When did you get a tattoo?" Sam asked with surprise as he stared down at the name on her wrist Angy panicked ' Great, now she had to think of a lie to tell ' She couldn't possibly tell Sam that the tattoo had appeared there overnight, even though it had, but it still sounded crazy " last month" " your folks didn't freak?" " they don't know" Sam traced a finger over the four letters. " who's Eric?" He asked with a slight frown " my grandpa," She told another lie. She was becoming good at those lately His expression relaxed at that. " I didn't take you for the rebellious type" "I am not" " aren't you?" "I Am not" Sam smiled and didn't ask anything else At that moment the teacher began the lecture, it was Biology, totally one of her least favorite subjects. with a sigh, she rested her head against the table. Hopefully, the day will go by faster and she can finally go home * * * The entire sky darkened, It was pretty obvious that it was about to rain heavily. Various students were all scrambling to get home before the rain descended. at this point, it was almost impossible to stop a taxi. Angy couldn't help sighing helplessly, If she stayed here waiting for a taxi that will probably never come, she would end up being a victim of the rain. maybe she could make it if she walked Making up her mind, she pulled down the sleeves of her sweater to cover her freezing hands. It was about an hour's walk to her house on foot, if she hurried hopefully she will make it on time before it started raining Walking steadily down the road, Angy decided to take a shortcut. It was a path through an alley that her mother had warned her never to take, but in cases like this, she guessed it was acceptable. It was empty and Incredibly dark due to the weather condition. She had to turn on the torch light on her phone to be able to see clearly where she was going After walking for about 20 minutes, a strike of thunder seemed to have created a pathway for the torrents of rain that followed " s**t" She shivered as the cold water poured down soaking her within seconds. She started to run hoping to make it home soon A scream echoed in the alley and had her coming to an abrupt stop. She was sure she hadn't imagined it, the sound came from ahead ' maybe someone was hurt Angy knew never to be stupid, she knew she should have ran the opposite direction. But she had a curiosity that could kill, she couldn't turn away. She walked towards the direction of the sound, from a distance away she could make out a kind of brightness she didn't quite understand. It was like a fire was burning, in this kind of weather, any fire would be extinguished right? Her curiosity ruled her better judgment and she found herself walking closer to the source. At a point, she could make out a standing figure hovering above what seemed to be a burning corpse. Flames took the brightest color of the blue, unlike anything she had ever seen before. " Hello?" The brightness of her phone wasn't enough to highlight the figure, but just when she was thinking of moving closer, a bolt of lightning struck, bringing a temporary light that was enough for her to see, even if just for a millisecond A white-haired male with what appeared to be silver horns, barely noticeable peaking out of his mop of hair, stood in the middle of the alley. Emerald-green eyes turned to look at her, she didn't need anyone to tell her to run. She dashed back in the direction she came, her phone slipping from her hands and landing on the flooded ground She had never run so fast in her life ' what the hell did she just see? People didn't have horns, do they? * * * " did you see that?" Damien turned his attention from the burnt corpse to Eric who hovered above him " hm," Eric answered looking at the phone Angy had dropped. the strange device, the humans seemed to be obsessed with that thing. " that girl can see us," Damien said once more, he didn't know whether to be amazed or shocked, maybe a mixture of both. " that girl saw us is what you mean. We have to get rid of her" Eric landed gracefully to the ground, his red hair stuck to his pale face even though not a single drop of rain ever touched him " surely you don't mean we have to kill her? We got our target, can't we just go home? Besides nobody would believe her if she tells them what she saw. that is if she even knows what she saw" " The kind of nonsense that comes out of your mouth makes me believe you are an i***t" Damien sighed at the demon Prince's insults. He was about to use it by now. " come on Eric, stop being such a.." " devil? Isn't that what we are?" " irrelevant killing isn't necessary " Eric sneered "We've killed over a thousand humans, what's one more" " Eric.. " " as I've said before, know your place. The only reason I haven't killed you is because it would displease my father. I'll do as I please. keep out of my way" That being said, the demon prince flew in the direction the girl had gone, ignoring Damien's call. He was going to take care of that girl once and for all * * * She had never run so fast in her life. It got to a point when she was almost going unconscious. her chest became heavy and breathing became a problem The worst thing was, she couldn't even see where she was running to, the harsh downpour and darkness prevented her from making a smooth getaway. Still, that did not stop her from running, she knew what she had seen wasn't normal ' a horned man with snow white hair standing beside a burning corpse' What the hell was that?! Would anyone even believe them if she told them? She wouldn't let herself be deceived into thinking it was all a part of her imagination. After running for a couple of minutes, she was finally out of the cursed alley. From a distance, Angy could make out a figure standing in the rain. The first thing that came to her mind was that she couldn't possibly let this innocent person get caught by the demon she saw earlier " Run! Something is coming this way!"Angy shouted at him. The person didn't say anything at her warning nor made any movements. It was too dark to see his face (she knew it was a male), and she couldn't possibly waste much time explaining to him what she had seen, so she did the only thing that came to her mind Angy grabbed onto his hand and dragged him along with her she only stopped when she found breathing to be too difficult, her body finally relaxed slightly and she tried to catch her breath, believing that whatever had been chasing them was left far behind The rain was still falling quite heavily beating down harder on their already-soaked body. She finally turned toward the person she was holding, it was the first time she was actually in the right state of mind to observe him properly The darkness though still prevented her from seeing his features properly. He was male, that much she was sure of " I believe we are safe now," she said assured " from what exactly?" A silky yet monotonous asked. Angy was a bit taken aback by the melodious voice, she was quick to compose herself through ' this was not the time to develop another crush' " Are you blind? Didn't you see that horned person earlier" The man was quiet for a few seconds. " horns?" he asked, she could somehow feel the amusement dripping from his voice Angy frowned. All of a sudden, she was feeling alert. How was it that this stranger didn't sound even a bit startled? He sounded like she had just told him a joke. Surely the average human being would have reacted quite differently. She opened her mouth to say something but was unable to think of anything. A strike of lightening as the one from earlier tore through the sky, bringing with it a temporary brightness that shone illuminating the person before her, In the millisecond that the brightness lasted, she was faced with the most breathtaking person she had ever seen. Standing before her was a boy presumably her age, with red hair, his skin was very pale and shone brightly when reflected by light, his lips were the lightest shade of pink and his eyes were the color of blood. On that soft-looking hair lay a pair of silver horns Wait...horns? it was so small that she barely took notice She looked closely as another lightning flashed. As realistic as they looked the first time, she knew those pointy things were indeed horns. Fear crept through every fiber of her being. This wasn't a man... " you....your..your n..not a person" Angy couldn't see the boy's expression now, Though his sharp red eyes glowed rather dangerously in the dark. It reminded her of that wildlife documentary her father always watched, the eyes of a predator as it pounces on its prey. " did you just notice"The silky voice from earlier now carried a drip of malice in it. " I've come to take your soul " Before her eyes, a sharp-looking dagger appeared seemingly out of nowhere in the person's hand. It blazed in blue flames. like actual blue flames, rather similar to the one she had seen before. Angy felt her legs give out under her and she collapses on the puddle of flowing water below her. She had never shivered so much in her life, and it certainly wasn't due to the cold weather either " p..please..d..don't kill me" The words flowed out of her lips broken. She didn't even have the strength to stand on her feet not to talk of running. It was like she was in some kind of spell " I hate when humans complicate my task. Irrelevant things like you don't even deserve to die by my hand" The person above her scorned, the dagger held firmly in his grip, The seemingly unquenchable flame still burning wildly. He was looking down at her with so much hatred that she was almost convinced she had offended him in the past " p..please" Angy was crying now and yet no weeping sound left her lips, just the flowing of tears that blended into the Rain that was falling above her " I don't know how you can see us, but I don't even care really, you are going to die as it is" The rain was falling harder now, probably crying for Angy the tears she couldn't shed. With another flash of lightning, the demon's eyes glowed in the light, she could swear she had never seen such cruelty in a person's eyes before The dagger raised in preparation to strike. Sucking in a deep breath, Angy's hands came up to cover her face as she prepared herself for the pain that was to come
