Chapter 3

Mo Jing Han’s face froze. Click. Click. Click. Beep… Beep… “Hello?” “Has Qin Wan Tang been acting strange lately?” he asked. “Huh? Tang Tang? What could possibly be wrong with her?” Lin Nuan replied casually. “I’m asking you,” he said impatiently. “Nothing much. But the other day she told me that you and that new girl, Yan Si Dao, are some kind of ‘male lead’ and ‘female lead.’” “Male lead… female lead?” Mo Jing Han frowned. “Has she been reading too many novels or something?” “I said the same thing, but she insisted it’s true. She said Yan Si Dao can even predict the future exactly.” “Got tricked again…” he sighed. After hanging up, he decided to go to Qin Wan Tang’s house and get to the bottom of this. Her house was only two streets away—it wouldn’t take much effort to walk there. But the door was closed. He rang the bell several times—no response. She was clearly avoiding him. Annoyed, Mo Jing Han went to the library to calm his restless mind. Who in their right mind would believe the words of someone they had just met for a few hours? Probably only Qin Wan Tang. At the library, he picked out a few math books and brought them to the counter. But Yan Si Dao was already there. On the desk were nearly ten identical books stacked together. She was arguing heatedly with the librarian, almost shouting, her face full of anger. “What’s going on?” Mo Jing Han stepped closer. He also wanted to observe her, to understand what she was planning by saying such absurd things to Qin Wan Tang. “M-Mo Jing Han?! You’re here?” Yan Si Dao startled, forcing a stiff smile. “This girl insists on buying all these books,” the librarian said sharply. “But I’ve already told her—library books are for borrowing only. No exceptions.” “I said I’ll pay double for each one!!” Yan Si Dao shouted. “This is a library. Keep your voice down,” Mo Jing Han reminded her. “What kind of book makes you so desperate to buy all of them?” He reached out, picked one up, and flipped through it casually. Then— His eyes widened in shock. He saw… his own name. Yan Si Dao’s name. And… Qin Wan Tang’s name. “No!!” Yan Si Dao tried to snatch the book back, but Mo Jing Han held it tightly, flipping through page after page. “You can’t read it!!” she shouted again, desperately tugging at it. “Be quiet.” Mo Jing Han shot her a cold glare, then turned to the librarian, his tone instantly gentler. “Ma’am, I’d like to borrow this book.” In the end, Yan Si Dao couldn’t stop him. Clutching the book tightly, Mo Jing Han rushed home, locked his bedroom door, and sat down at his desk. He opened the book, flipping through each page with growing intensity. “Xing Yao High School…” It was the exact school he attended. “Mo Jing Han’s favorite flavor is orange…” Correct. Everything in the book perfectly described his life—his appearance, his family background, his relationship with Qin Wan Tang. And even… It said he would fall in love with Yan Si Dao in the future. It said Qin Wan Tang would die a tragic death. Mo Jing Han couldn’t understand. This novel felt like a complete blueprint of his life, as if he were destined to follow it, controlled by some invisible force. He didn’t want that. Was his life really just a novel? How could he possibly stand by and watch Qin Wan Tang die… and marry Yan Si Dao? Even stranger—why was Yan Si Dao trying to hide all of this? Was she afraid others would discover the truth and disrupt the storyline she wanted? Or was there something deeper? Mo Jing Han spent the entire day studying the novel, trying to find a way to avoid this disastrous ending. Should he tell Qin Wan Tang? What if it scared her even more? After seeing such a terrifying fate, she might want to stay even farther away from him. He needed to resolve this quickly. Yan Si Dao clearly knew something he didn’t. Beep! Qin Wan Tang’s phone lit up with a new message: “Come here. Something important.” Something important…? Even though she wanted to avoid Mo Jing Han, curiosity gnawed at her. What could be so important? She couldn’t avoid him forever… right? Fifteen minutes later, Qin Wan Tang rang the doorbell. The door opened immediately. Before she could react, he pulled her inside his room and locked the door. W-What kind of situation is this?! A boy and a girl alone in a closed room… Countless dramatic scenarios flashed through her mind. “I-Is something wrong, Jing Han…?” she asked nervously, her face burning. Mo Jing Han raised the novel, his expression serious. “This is a novel.” “Huh—?!” She jumped. She thought it was something else… turns out it was this. “I know already! Yan Si Dao told me too! That’s why I have to stay away from you—” She said. “No.” His voice cut her off firmly. “Do you think I would heartlessly let you die?” “I… no, but… I mean… Yan Si Dao told me…” “We have to solve this together.” His gaze locked onto hers. “Do you really want to give me to Yan Si Dao?” His voice lowered slightly, like a whisper. “Can you bear that?”
