NORA I flinched like Mark had just doused me in cold water. My face scrunched up, “no offense, Mark, but I think the initial affection has waned. I'm not interested in you.” His smile never faltered. “And I'm not interested in you either.” That's it, this guy was either mad or psychotic. I chuckled nervously, grabbing my tote from where it was perched next to me. But as I contemplated the quickest route out of here, he stopped me. “I know I sound like a psycho—” “Damn right, you do.” “—But just hear me out here,” his eyes were pleading, shining with unspoken emotions. I sighed, abandoning my tote and becoming comfortable once again. “This had better be good,” I warned. He swallowed. “Damn, you're so scary when you want to be. Anyway, I want us to pretend to be in a relationship.”
