When Love Breaks Through

1110 Words
I stayed up late that night, staring at the ceiling as Leah’s words replayed in my head like a haunting melody. Don’t let your feelings mess up what you’ve planned for your life. But what if Elias wasn’t a distraction? What if he was something more—a possibility I hadn’t dared to imagine? The next morning, I found him in the garden, his sleeves rolled up, tending to the flowers that had started to bloom. He looked so at ease, so different from the man I had first met. The sight made my chest tighten with an emotion I didn’t want to name. “You’re up early,” I said, stepping onto the patio. He turned, his face lighting up at the sight of me. “Couldn’t sleep. Thought I’d get my hands dirty instead.” “Since when do you garden?” He chuckled, wiping his hands on a towel. “Since I realized it helps me think. Want to join?” I hesitated but nodded. He handed me a pair of gloves, and we worked side by side, pulling weeds and planting seeds. It was quiet, save for the rustle of leaves and the occasional bird song. But the silence between us felt comfortable, like we didn’t need words to fill the space. As the sun climbed higher, I found myself stealing glances at him—his strong hands, the way his lips curved when he smiled. I noticed things I hadn’t before: the faint scar on his jawline, the way his eyes softened when he looked at me. Each discovery felt like peeling back a layer of him, revealing a side I hadn’t seen but wanted to know. “You’re staring,” he said, breaking the silence. I flushed. “I was not.” “You were.” He smirked, his gaze teasing but warm. “What’s on your mind?” I shrugged, playing it off. “Just wondering if you’ve always been this good at gardening.” “Hardly,” he admitted. “I’m figuring it out as I go.” “Like most things in life,” I said softly. He paused, turning to face me. “Zahra, are you okay? You’ve been… distant.” I looked down at my hands, dirt smudging the gloves. “I’m just trying to figure things out.” “Figure what out?” His voice was gentle, but there was an edge of concern. I met his gaze, the sincerity in his eyes making my throat tighten. “Us. You. Me. Everything.” Elias stepped closer, his presence grounding me. “I don’t want to complicate your life, Zahra. But I can’t ignore what’s between us. Can you?” His words hung in the air, heavy with meaning. I wanted to say no, to tell him that I felt it too—that pull, that connection. But Leah’s voice whispered in my mind, a tether pulling me back. “I don’t know,” I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. Elias studied me for a moment before nodding. “Take your time. I’ll wait.” That evening, as we sat on the couch, the tension between us felt like a live wire. The movie playing on the screen was forgotten as I became hyper-aware of his presence beside me—the warmth of his arm brushing against mine, the faint scent of his cologne. “You’re quiet again,” he remarked, his tone light but probing. “Just thinking.” “About?” “You.” The confession slipped out before I could stop it. His head turned sharply, his eyes locking onto mine. “Me?” I nodded, my cheeks burning. “You’ve changed. Or maybe I’m just seeing a different side of you.” “Maybe a bit of both,” he said, his voice low. “Is that a bad thing?” “No,” I admitted. “It’s… confusing.” Elias reached out, brushing a strand of hair from my face. His touch was featherlight, but it sent a shiver down my spine. “What are you so afraid of, Zahra?” I swallowed hard, the words clawing at my throat. “Losing control. Losing myself.” “You won’t,” he promised, his voice steady. “I won’t let you.” Something in his tone broke through my defenses. Before I could think, the words tumbled out: “I love you.” The silence that followed was deafening. I held my breath, fear and hope battling within me. But then Elias smiled—a slow, breathtaking smile that made my heart skip. “Say it again,” he whispered, leaning closer. “I love you,” I repeated, the words stronger this time. He closed the distance between us, his lips capturing mine in a kiss that stole my breath. It was nothing like before—no hesitation, no holding back. His hands cupped my face, pulling me closer as if he couldn’t get enough. We moved in a blur of passion, our bodies tangling as we made our way to the bedroom. His touch was fire and ice, setting my skin ablaze while sending shivers down my spine. He worshipped every inch of me, his hands and mouth leaving trails of pleasure that made me forget everything but him. “Zahra,” he murmured, his voice thick with desire. “Tell me what you want.” “You,” I breathed, my fingers gripping his shoulders. “Just you.” The intensity of his gaze was almost too much, but I couldn’t look away. He moved with a precision that left me gasping, every touch, every kiss, every whispered word drawing me closer to the edge. When we finally came undone, it was like falling into the sun—blinding, consuming, and utterly beautiful. I clung to him, my body trembling as waves of pleasure washed over me. Elias held me close, his breathing ragged but steady. “You’re incredible,” he said, pressing a kiss to my temple. For the first time in a long time, I felt whole. Complete. But as I lay in his arms, a nagging thought crept in. What would Leah say? What would this mean for the life I want to have? Elias must have sensed my turmoil because he tightened his hold on me. “Whatever you’re thinking,” he said softly, “we’ll figure it out. Together.” His words were a balm to my soul, but they didn’t erase the uncertainty lingering in the back of my mind. Still, for now, I let myself believe him. For now, I let myself feel.
