The morning sun filtered through the blinds, but Maya couldn’t shake the tension from the night’s chase. Deran had driven them to a safe house, a hidden location Selene had arranged. The walls were bare, the room silent—yet Maya felt the weight of the danger pressing in.
Deran paced, reviewing Selene’s notes. “There’s more to this than we thought,” he said, voice tight. “Whoever is after you… they’re connected to someone very close to you.”
Maya froze. “What do you mean?”
He handed her a folder filled with documents, photographs, and handwritten notes. Her eyes widened as she recognized familiar places, familiar faces—people she trusted. And yet, in Deran’s careful markings, connections emerged she had never imagined.
“This isn’t random,” Deran said. “It’s planned. Someone is orchestrating events to push you into the open… to use you.”
Maya’s mind spun, the weight of betrayal and danger overwhelming. But beneath the fear, a spark of determination ignited. She couldn’t run forever.
Deran stepped closer, voice low but steady. “We’ll face this together. But we need to act now—before they discover that we know too much.”
Maya nodded, swallowing her fear. The dangerous discovery was only the beginning, and every choice from this point could be life—or death.
