Intrusion

210 Words
Episode 3 Maya’s hands shook as she locked the apartment door behind her, the memory of the shadow from last night still fresh in her mind. Every corner of her home felt threatening now, every whisper of wind against the window sending chills down her spine. She tried to steady her breathing, telling herself it was only her imagination—but the broken glass on the kitchen floor told another story. Suddenly, her phone buzzed. A message from Deran: “I’m on my way. Don’t move.” She wanted to respond, but fear froze her fingers. Seconds felt like hours as she watched the shadows flicker across the walls. Then, a sudden crash from the living room made her heart leap into her throat. Before she could react, a tall figure appeared in the doorway. Deran. His eyes scanned the room, alert, fierce, then softened when they landed on her. “You’re safe,” he murmured, stepping closer, his presence a shield against the darkness. Maya exhaled shakily, relief mixing with lingering fear. The intruder had left a warning, a message that she couldn’t yet understand. And as Deran closed the blinds, protecting her from prying eyes, Maya realized this was only the beginning of the danger stalking her life.
