Maya had always believed that a quiet life was the safest kind of life. No risks, no attachments, no unnecessary complications. Just work, home, and silence. That was enough for her.
But that night, something felt different.
The city was louder than usual, yet the street she walked on seemed strangely still. A flickering streetlight caught her attention, and beneath it stood a man she had never seen before. He was tall, calm, and completely motionless, as if he had been waiting.
Maya slowed her steps.
“Do I know you?” she asked, her voice cautious but steady.
“No,” he replied. His tone was low, controlled, almost unsettling.
There was something about him—something dangerous she couldn’t explain. She should have walked away. She knew that.
But she didn’t.
Before she could think, he stepped closer. Her breath caught as his hand lightly touched her arm. And then, without warning, his lips crashed against hers.
The kiss was intense, sudden, and overwhelming. It sent a shock through her body, leaving her frozen in place.
Just as quickly, he pulled away.
“Mistake,” he said quietly, before turning and disappearing into the night.
Maya stood there, heart racing.
That one kiss had already changed everything.
