After I had arrived home I reported to my dad what transpired in the woods. I also told him about Samuels scent.
“Savannah,” Samuel’s voice made me tingle and knowing he was in my room and safe, a wave of relief washed over me..
“Yes,” I walked over to him and hugged him. I quickly let him go and stepped back ignoring the numb tingly feelings where I touched him. No more touching Samuel, even if it feels kind of wonderful.
“Happy to see me?” he smiled. Not a sweet smile. More like a “you like me” smile. An evil smile.
“No,” I scoffed. He’s crazy. I am happy to see he’s safe. There was a difference.
He laughed and said, “Sure you aren’t.”
“Anyway David and Gordon are in the woods checking out a rogues scent and yours.” It only a matter of time before someone will follow his scent here. I just know it.
“Oh.”
“Yeah, where are you staying?” I asked.
“Your house,” he said.
“No. I mean seriously, where have you been staying?”
“Your house,” he replied.
I frowned at him.
“Your cute when you’re angry you know,” he smiled at me, this time his eyes were kind.
I chuckled, “Thanks. I guess.”
“Ever since I found out you were my mate, I couldn’t sleep without thinking about you. Then, when I claimed you, I didn’t sleep unless I was next to you.”
“So you come in my bed every night?”
“Pretty much.” He shrugged.
Oh great, just great. For a rogue who was said to be smart, he sure was dumb.
He stepped around me and closed my door before walking back over to me. He took my hand and pulled me over to the bed. He sat down and smile.
“Tell me more about you?” he asked.
I held my breath. If I were to intake his scent I would lose control.
“Uhm. I,” I stuttered. Smooth, Savannah real smooth. I cleared my throat. “I love being outside” I didn’t really know what to say. I was better with straightforward questions.
“Yeah, that’s obvious.”
“I love to run. Ooh, I love music, and hanging out with friends, especially Jason. He is my best friend,” I said as I sat down.
He growled.
“Jason is my friend,” I snapped. I don’t feel like fighting with him, not now. We’re getting along so well, why ruin it?
“Okay, go on.”
“Well, I had one older brother, one younger, and a little sister, and of course Lily. She is practically family. She will be family soon enough.”
“Aaron. Your older brother.” he said glancing over at the window. Aaron I miss him so much.
“Yeah, and Kade” I tried changing the subject.
“What happened to him?”
“Aaron. He.” I fidgeted with my t-shirt.
“Yeah. He was what? Twenty-two?”
“Yeah. He would have been a few weeks ago,” I whispered.
He put his arm around my waist and pulled me into him. “I’m sorry. You don’t have to talk about it.”
Wow, I fit into him perfectly. He was so warm I didn’t want to leave his embrace. It was hard to not like him when he was kind, warm, and smelled so good.
“No.” I feel like I should tell him. I feel like he needs to know.
“Are you sure?”
“Positive.” I nodded.
“Okay, continue when you’re ready.”
Well I was going to. I was tempted to say. You probably think I’m crazy. I probably am but a good kind crazy. I’m pretty sure there are such things as good crazy
“Our pack and another pack from the south, let’s just say, didn’t see eye to eye. I was thirteen at the time and had been a wolf for about a year. Anyway, the Alpha from their pack planned an ambush and Aaron overheard them talking. He warned my dad and everyone here prepared for an attack, which eventually came. While everyone was battling, the Alpha got word that Aaron heard them talking. He called Aaron a “spy” and ordered anyone who could to kill him.” I paused as those memories flooded my mind. “My dad told Aaron to stay out of the fight, but Aaron didn’t listen. He wanted to fight, so he did. The fight lasted for hours and soon it got pretty late and started to rain. By now everyone was getting tired, except the other packs Alpha, who had hid waiting to ambush Aaron.”
“You don’t have to continue,” he said softly.
“You don’t stop in the middle of the story either,” I said clearing my throat.
“True, please continue.”
“While he was waiting to ambush Aaron, lightning and thunder decided to arrive and make matters worse. Now Aaron’s sharp wolf senses and hearing were not so sharp anymore. I’m not sure about the rest. All I know is Aaron chased one of the wolves into the forest and never came out. They found his blood there and a trail, but it stopped and the rain washed the scents away,” I said. I just hope that if Aaron was alive, that he was happy.
We sat there in silence. He started humming. Weird. Samuel the big, tough, scary wolf humming. It was very peaceful though I found myself relaxing and drifting out every so often. I was very happy for some strange reason; I told Samuel about how my brother disappeared or how he died and I’m happy. Am I going insane? I was happy, I couldn’t deny it I was completely, utterly, and comfortable in his arms smelling his intoxicating scent. Sometimes I wish mates didn’t have this strange “power” thing over one another.
