The Story of Existence

“Very long ago, before creation itself. Everything that we know as it is………was not there. In its stead was Oblivion*.” Lucifer spoke ominously, while everyone listened to him with upmost concentration, “Oblivion is a void. No darkness, nor light. No mass or energy, it is nothingness. But from this void, something arose.” “Two entities of immense power were born from the nothingness of Oblivion. These were the two Supremes. Erus and Mephos.” “The Supremes were very special, for not only they could survive in Oblivion. They had a power that could change everything. The power was the ability to fill the void that once was Oblivion. And so they created……….And their creations filled the void.” “Erus made a parallel that was perfect in his eyes in the vertical direction, and thus Celestia, the Parallel of Eternal Light was created. Mephos chose the different horizontal direction to make her own perfect Parallel and thus Inferno; the Parallel of Eternal night was born.” “With the playground constructed, the Supremes created the ones who were meant to play. And thus born were the Immortals. Beings of pure energy called Maya.” Lucifer turned to Zoya and explained further, “Immortals who were destined to inherit Celestia were the Angels. While those who spread across Inferno were the Demons.” “But, there was an outcome none could’ve ever perceived…………You see, The birth of Celestia and Inferno was at a single point, the point where the two Paralles converged. This point was called the origin.” “The Origin is a unique place, for here, the polar opposite parallel made an unlikely unison. It was not what the Supremes had intended but this unlikely union gave rise to something new. Something unexpected. A new parallel was formed, the Cosmos. The flawed Parallel. This was a very peculiar parallel, for it wasn’t created directly by the Supremes and thus was flawed. It shared both nature of Celestia and Inferno which constantly battling for dominance, making it unpredictable and un-harmonic. It was imperfect.” “The denizens of this imperfect Parallel were flawed as well. Born from the vary womb of their surroundings, these beings had physical bodies made from the very matter that surrounded them. These flawed creatures had so many limitations. Finite life span, need for perfect and specific conditions, basic needs. All these were common amongst them, even if the creatures varied in shapes and sizes in various planets of Cosmos. We called these beings Mortals. Flawed inhabitants of a Flawed Parallel.” “We let them be, believing that they would die out in a blink of an eye, for time meant nothing for us Immortals, yet time was something Mortals had scarce. I myself have seen several Mortal civilizations start from the ground and perish right back from wench it came. But their persistence surprised us. For if one type of life seizes to exist, another would evolve to take its place…..sooner or later.” Zoya could actually relate to what Lucifer was saying. Just like how Vorkens inherited Siraya after the Sai’ore. His story awed her. Though unbelievable, but after witnessing their powers first hand, she was bound to believe Lucifer. “So……How old are you exactly Boss?” Lucifer rubbed his chin and answered truthfully, “Since age is not really an important factor to Immortals. I lost track of how old I am.” Rose seemed to know a bit and disclosed a new information, “Lord Lucifer is said to be amongst the first Immortals to be created along with Lady Lilith.” This caused Zoya’s eyes to nearly pop out of her sockets as Rose was practically implying that Lucifer was older than the universe itself. “Seriously?” she asked, trying to trace any hint of humour in Rose’s eyes. She found none, meaning she wasn’t joking. “Darn…….You really are an old man.” mumbled Zoya, causing Lucifer’s eyes to twitch in annoyance and Luna to snicker. Not noticing Lucifer’s annoyed look, Zoya asked further, “Wait, Who is Lilith?” The fallen paused for a while. Slowly he answered, “I was the First Angel created by Erus. And Lily was the first Demon created by Mephos.” His voice was low when he said this, earning a concerned look from the Red head besides him. Hesitantly, Zoya asked, “You knew her?” Her voice made it clear that she was nervous. Whatever the deal was, Lucifer must’ve have some troubled past regarding Lilith and she was probably treading on a very thin ice, but curiosity got the better of her. After a long awkward silence, Lucifer finally answered, “Yes. We knew each other.” His voice was low but one could find traces of fondness below the stoic exterior, “Angels and Demons were not always at each other’s throats. Long ago, there was once a time of peace, when the two immortal races tolerated each other. Some even managed to put aside their difference and became friends.” The entire concept was very foreign and alien for both Rose and Gabriel. So long have their kind been fighting that it was hard to imagine such an era existed. But the nostalgia shining in Lucifer’s eyes was real enough to prove that such an era really did existed, even if long forgotten. “So…What happened?” asked Zoya curiously. Lucifer’s expression darkened a bit, “The Brutums came.” This caused Luna to perk up. “Brutums?” the girl tilted her head at the alien word. “Yes, the third immortal race. No one knows how they came into being but one thing was sure. They were a very big threat for all.” “Immortals are all made of pure energy called Maya. The two races, Angels and Demons, have their own distinct but pure Maya which makes up their essence. But these new Immortals were different. Although they were made of Maya as well, but their energy was not pure and tranquil but Impure and chaotic but the thing that made them even more dangerous was their hunger.” “One of the things that kept the Immortals so peaceful was due to the fact that we didn’t need to fight over basic needs for we simply don’t need them. But due to the twisted nature of their Maya, the Brutums were volatile and had a deep irresistible hunger which couldn’t be sated. So they did what any being would do. They devoured.” “Brutums have the ability to devour virtually anything in their vicinity to sate their hunger. The things they devoured would be turned into energy which would cause them to be stronger, and even evolve………….They soon developed a taste for Immortal Maya.” “The Brutums were like a natural predator of Immortal kind, preying upon nations of Angels and Demons alike. So we had no choice but to fight back. Thus we Immortals learned the art of war.” “Several Eons passed by and we mastered this art of warfare. We pushed back the Brutums. But just fending them off was not enough. The Brutums would’ve devoured us yet again so we Angels did what we had to.” “Are you talking about the g******e* of Celestial Brutums?” asked Rose. Lucifer nodded solemnly. “So you killed them?” the fallen was surprised that it was Luna who spoke, “You killed them all?” Lucifer should’ve expected her astonishment. It was probably ground breaking for her to know about the full history of her kind. So he decided not to sugar coat things, “We had to……..I’m sorry.” Luna looked down and took a deep breath, “You don’t have to say sorry. I was just……. Surprised. What happened then?” Now this was the part where things got a bit sensitive, but still he continued, “Angels and Demons had dealt with Brutums in their own ways. We Angels saw only abominations in them, thus we purged them from this existence. But Demons had an entirely different opinion. Where we saw threat………….They saw an opportunity.” Surprised gasps escaped from everyone. “The Brutums were far powerful than any other Immortal and to be able to direct that power at will was too much of a temptation to miss. So they did what everyone thought Impossible. The unthinkable………………Demons tamed the Brutums.” Lucifer could read the uneasiness on Rose’s features. He could also sense the disgust radiating from Gabriel. It was a very sensitive topic but since he came this far, Lucifer might as well finish what he started. “This created…………a big dispute amongst the two Immortal races. There was already enough bad blood when either of the races refused to help each other during the Brutum crisis. And the Angels were very open about their loathing of Brutums. Constantly pressurizing the Demons to put the Brutums down for good, but the new slaves the Demons had enslaved were far too valuable for them and so they basically said, ‘Screw you’ to all their winged counter parts.” “This verbal hostility made the relation very tense and strained. With the situation so volatile, all they needed was a spark. Which they got.” “The attack on the Ivory nation by an Infernic Brutum Hoard sent by the Demons.” Muttered Gabriel from back. Rose was quick to defend her kind, “That was a mistake! No Brutum hoard of that size was under our control at that era!” Lucifer sighed at this, “It matters not now. Whether the Demons sent the attack or not, the fate was sealed. In rage, the angels marched down the Origin for a counter attack. Thus started a long bitter war that lasted for eons. That left scars not only on body but on minds as well……… And eventually…… the very existence. The Largest war ever fought, The War of Existence*.” The fallen closed his eyes as visions of war flooded his mind. He shook his head, trying to send those thoughts away. “So what happened then?” asked Zoya eagerly. “The Angels won, the Demons lost and were sealed in Inferno using the three keys of Existence.” crudely summarized Lucifer making it obvious that he didn’t wish to talk about it. The girl frowned at this and turned towards Rose, pleading for answers. The masked Demon sighed and explained, “Even with the advantage we had on Angels due to our tamed Brutums on our side. Lord Lucifer bested and defeated our strongest, Lady Lilith. It shattered our moral and we couldn’t keep up the fight.” Lucifer turned away, as Rose said this. Still on question still remained unanswered, “How do you fit in all this? Why are you here Boss?” asked the child. The blond didn’t speak. Not sure what to say, or even willing to say anything. “Aren’t you gonna speak ‘Late General’ or should I say the rest.” Asked Gabriel coolly Lucifer glared heatedly at the boy but calmed himself with a deep breath. “Fine, I betrayed my kin. Got my wing chopped off and was banished from my home and have been wandering around the Cosmos ever since, until I got stuck in this mess.” Zoya was really confused at this, as was Luna for this was the first time she heard this story of Lucifer. “Why would you do that?” Zoya asked timidly. “It’s getting late. I advise you all get some rest.” Said Lucifer, completely ignoring Zoya’s question and laid back on the mattress with his back facing them. The mortal would’ve pressed on if it wasn’t for Rose who gestured her not to. They settled down and took Lucifer’s advice. But one thing was clear that Lucifer was hiding something and everyone was very curious about it. The most eldest Immortal had many secrets, Just what could they be?........................
