I love the cool tone, admirably rendered in the best English translation (there are some translations available on the net which are not good). I like how the most extreme events are recounted in a detached, matter-of-fact way. I love its detailed descriptions of O’s clothing, the skirts, the dresses, the corsets, all designed to ensure that she is instantly available to be used sexually by the men who have been given access to her.
