Chapter 22: Reunion

Duderstadt. As he approached the town, Glenn noticed that there were large groups of police patrolling the streets, which was unusual. Had anything happened in Duderstadt recently? It seemed like something big had happened... Glenn just stopped and watched for a while, then continued on his way. A couple of policemen who saw him immediately stepped forward and asked in a commanding tone, 'Stop! What are you doing? Bringing pigs into town to sell," Glenn replied as he stepped aside. The senior officer motioned with his eyes and the others crowded around the cart to inspect it. They pushed the dead pig around, and some even took out their daggers to peel back some of the skin to see if there was anything unusual inside. Glenn just stood aside and let them fiddle with the pig as they pleased. He didn't mind, and this kind of treatment wouldn't affect the quality of the meat. After sweating for a while, the policemen finally gave up, either because they were tired or because they really couldn't find anything. They shook their heads at the lead officer, indicating that there was nothing unusual. Only then did they let Glenn pass. Glenn walked over to the cart and, in a few quick moves, straightened the black pig, leaving the policemen staring in amazement. As they watched the young man pull the pig into town, one of the policemen exclaimed, "He looks skinny and tall, but he must have a lot of strength! ... Business was much quieter this time, which did not surprise Glenn. If every shop was like the last two, the town's wealth would be gone in a matter of months. But even with this much quieter business, it was still much higher than the average civilian family's income. His attitude remained enthusiastic, and he soon got to know a few regular customers and was able to joke around a bit during the transaction. After dismissing another customer, Glenn heard a familiar voice. Mr Glenn! Laila had come out of nowhere, her hands full of skirts, her pretty face full of surprise. Miss Laila, long time no see, aren't you going to school today? Glenn wiped his blood-stained hands with a cloth and smiled. 'Yes, my friends wanted to go for a walk and I was dragged along, so I had to join them. Laila smiled broadly, her eyebrows and eyes arched, and then exclaimed, 'Are you selling meat? It is a very profitable business! There are a lot of animals near the town where I live, so it's a good business to sell them,' Glenn explained. That's really not bad,' Leila praised sincerely, suddenly feeling a little apologetic, 'Am I affecting your business here? Seeing the helpless look on the girl's face, Glenn found it funny. He waved his hand and said, 'It's all right, it won't affect much, don't be so formal. Just as they were about to say something, another voice came from behind them. 'Leila, is this gentleman your boyfriend? It was a slightly chubby, red-haired teenager who was walking towards Glenn with two men and a woman. These are my classmates and friends, Boke, Meyer, Deyarmela and Pellnas. Laila introduced Glenn as soon as she saw the people coming. Then she introduced her friends, 'Friends, this is Mr Glenn, a very nice gentleman. Hello, Mr Glenn,' the three boys greeted him politely. Only the young blonde, Pernas, covered her nose and mouth, looked away and said nothing, keeping her distance from Glenn's stall. Glenn nodded and gave the young blonde a meaningful smile as he looked at her again. Leila said awkwardly, "I'm sorry, Mr Glenn, Pernas has a strange temper, please don't be angry. Glenn just wanted to show that he didn't care, but after the other person had finished speaking, he walked over to the blonde girl, tugged at her dress and dragged her a short distance away. He whispered, "Pernas, that's very rude! Apologise to Mr Glenn! But Pernas persuaded Laila instead: 'Laila, my good friend, how could you hang out with someone like that? Look at him, filthy and smelling of blood, how disgusting! Let's just go, leave him alone. These words shocked Laila, she couldn't believe that these words could come from the mouth of this friend. Although Pernas was a noble, she was very kind to her friends. Laila thought she was different from these arrogant noble ladies, but now it seems... Her face turned red with anger. She really couldn't accept what Pernas had just said. Even though Glenn was far away, his super hearing allowed him to hear the conversation. Seeing that the friendship boat was about to capsize, he interrupted the conversation between the two young girls: "Layla, where is that greedy little girl? Isn't she with you? Layla was about to lose her temper when she suddenly heard Glenn's question. She could only look at her best friend angrily and turn around to run back to Glenn's stall, leaving him dumbfounded. All the while, the three teenagers following were dumbfounded and didn't understand what was going on. Mr Glenn, I must apologise to you again on behalf of Pernas. She's not usually like this,' Laila said. Laila started to bow to Glenn, but he stopped her. Come on, your mother raised you too well. Why are you always so polite? I won't be angry with a little girl. Perhaps out of respect for her benefactor, or for some other reason, Laila unconsciously always tried to be polite and restrained in Glenn's presence. Laila, being held back, was a little embarrassed and said apologetically, "I'm really sorry. Not far away, Pernas, who had covered her nose and mouth as she watched from the side, changed her expression when she heard Glenn call her little girl. She turned around and tried to be angry, but she held herself back. Glenn noticed the blonde girl's actions, but he just smiled to himself. He asked Leila, "First answer my previous question. Why isn't the little girl called Bonnie with you? Laila's expression flickered with a hint of sadness, and she hesitated before speaking: 'Bonnie... she's not in a good mood and doesn't want to come out...' 'Is it because of you...' Glenn wanted to say it's because of your father, but he felt it would be inappropriate, so he cleared his throat and changed the subject, 'Is it because of the danger we ran into that day? 'Mr Glenn, how did you know?' Laila looked a little surprised. 'The police came to see me, how could I not know? Glenn shrugged. Hearing that the police had come to see Glenn, Laila was a little worried and said, 'They didn't give you any trouble, did they? 'No, they were just investigating what happened that day. That's good,' Leila patted her chest and let out a small sigh of relief. Glenn saw someone come in to buy some meat, so as he served them he continued to ask, 'Tell me, what happened to that little girl Bonnie? Was she scared and did it leave a psychological shadow that she hasn't recovered from yet? After he finished, Layla looked incredulous and her tone became a little surprised. 'You're right, Mr Glenn!'
