Chapter 9: Kyralia

1448 Words
A small settlement of ogres nibbles on their latest catch in the forest. In the middle of the group is a stone sculpture in the shape of a pointed tower. It is about three metres high and two metres wide, and has a door-like pattern on one side, making it look more like an exotic house. Moss and other plants have grown on the stone sculpture, which has obviously not been looked after for a long time. The ogres were used to the strange stone sculpture and ignored it, concentrating on their meal. At some point during their meal, the stone sculpture suddenly moved! The side with the door pattern actually made a sound unique to wooden doors. Squeaking. Gron opened the door, expecting to see a dark room, but instead there was a blinding flash of light behind the door, causing his eyes, accustomed to the dark, to hurt and he had to cover them with his arms. When he could see clearly, he realised that he was in a jungle, surrounded by a group of ugly humanoid monsters whose heads were staring at him. 'Er...hello?' Glenn said, pulling the corners of his mouth to greet them quietly. 'Food...food!' One of the ogres shouted indistinctly, breaking the silence. Instantly, the ogres around him put down the meat in their hands, grabbed stone clubs and axes, and charged at the human who had burst in. Quite a warm welcome... Glenn moved his wrist a little, and claws grew from the tips of his fingers... After a moment, leaving a few ogre corpses behind, the remaining ogres were so frightened that they fled to the Western Zhou with serious injuries. Glenn could have left them all behind, but they didn't smell good lying around, so he mutilated them and set them free, and they probably won't live long. Where the hell is this place? Glenn scratched his head as he looked around the dense forest of the Western Zhou Dynasty. He had just transformed into a wolf, so his clothes were still intact, and of course he didn't have to go back to change. Looking back to where he came from, he had no idea that the door under his house would lead to this place. He touched the open door with his hand and found that one side was made of stone and the other of wood. He also noticed a circle of runes on his right wrist, relating to the door. The right hand is the one I used to hold the handle when I opened the door. Could it have been branded at that time? As Glenn speculated, the door suddenly closed by itself. This startled him and he hurriedly tried to read the door pattern in the c***k, but it was obviously useless. 'This...' Glenn gritted his teeth, his face looking extremely ugly. Am I not going to get out of here? No, calm down... Taking a few deep breaths, Glenn calmed his emotions. He looked at the rune on his right wrist and tried to feel around the stone wall. Just as he touched a triangular pattern, the rune on his wrist glowed slightly and the door opened by itself. This relieved Glenn and he wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. Now that he knew how to open the door, he was in no hurry to leave. He looked around, and to make it easier to see more, he chose a direction with a high mountain and explored in that direction. When he reached the top of the mountain, the scene in the distance surprised him, for at the end of the hilly jungle was a city. It was the kind of city that could be found in any kingdom in the world, and he would not be fooled by the European-style buildings, castles and factories belching black smoke. Had I arrived in the city of the Lord? The thought popped into Glenn's head almost immediately, and it must have been a big one. To verify his guess, Glenn ran down the mountain first, and nothing could be more certain than practice. A black gust of wind swept through the jungle, startling countless animals and monsters, but none of them knew what it was. Slightly werewolf-like, Glenn gained enough speed to shake off any creature in this jungle. The air carried the scent of humans, and soon he was within 100 metres of the city walls, and could see the main road from afar. Caravans and travellers were passing by all the time, along with all sorts of strange vehicles, car-sized lizard-like monsters, big cats with two horns, and so on. The city gates were wide open and soldiers in armour and armed with muskets kept order. Glenn returned to normal, stepped out of the shadows and asked a random young man who was passing by: "Hey, buddy, can you tell me where I am? I just got lost and stumbled over here. Help me out. The young man looked at Glenn strangely, but eventually replied: 'This is the town of Kaeradria. You can't not know where you are unless you're a barbarian. Kailardia? Isn't that the district where the town of Byerke is located? Isn't that the main city in the west of the kingdom? It's several districts away from Byerke! Kailardia... seems to be the district closest to the royal capital... Glenn remembered the information about Kailardia and forgot to answer the young man for a moment. 'Um... what's wrong with you, sir? The young man waved his hand in front of Glenn's eyes, his face even more strange. 'Huh? Oh...' Glenn was embarrassed for a moment, coughed lightly and explained casually, 'Sorry, I just got lost in my thoughts. You know, it's easy to do when you suddenly hear that you've arrived in the capital of a district. Good luck, sir. The young man sighed, obviously not wanting to hear Glenn's flawed explanation, and walked away with a slight bow. Glenn, who had a thick skin, didn't care about the young man's attitude and just continued on his way. The magic portal reminded me of a cartoon. The previous owner was no ordinary man. He must have been a great magician to be able to construct such magic. But judging by the state of my cellar, it's obvious that no one has been here for a long time. This mage should have died long ago... Without attracting attention, Glenn returned to the forest. He had no intention of going into town, there was no need, and he could always return later when he had the money and the time. At the town gate, an eagle with piercing eyes stood on the shoulder of a policeman and spoke in a human voice: 'Damn, I seem to detect the scent of a werewolf? That's impossible, this area has been swept by the Knights, don't be so jumpy,' said the constable. ... Leila had dressed up today, wearing her most expensive dress, a sun hat, and carrying a basket of gifts that her mother had carefully prepared, all kinds of food and other things that were very precious to a family like theirs, all under the guise of visiting relatives. But she really did go out, just not to visit relatives. She visited some friends who lived near the town, hoping to find some company, but they all had things to do and refused. The only one who was free changed colour when she heard she was going to the town of Yake. It was a small girl with freckles all over her face. She half closed the door and said carefully, "Layla, listen to me, you don't want to go to that place, I swear! If you only knew how dangerous it really is. 'You know?' 'Of course, because I wandered into it once by mistake. It's full of monsters. I saw them with my own eyes, in the fog. If I hadn't run fast, you wouldn't see me now. The freckled girl looked frightened. But instead of being frightened, Layla covered her mouth and laughed. At this, the little girl's face flushed and she pretended to be serious and said, 'Layla, you have to believe me! If you don't believe me, you can ask the adults and I'm sure they'll tell you the same thing! Okay, Bonnie, okay, I have to go. Leila walked over to Bonnie and gave her a gentle hug before turning and leaving. In Leila's opinion, if the city of Beyeck was really as dangerous as Bonnie said, then how come it was still unknown and unheard of, and the gentleman in question was still living there?
